Eight actors had to wait more than 50 years after their movie debuts to get an Oscar nomination.
1. Who are those eight actors? (one is especially obscure)
2. Which three actually won?
3. Who is the only one of the eight to go on to get a second nomination?

I'm pretty sure I know two of those nominees:
Lauren Bacall and Gloria Stuart
. Neither of them won, nor did they get a second nomination.

I'm guessing that
Jessica Tandy
is one of the winners...

Is
Jack Palance
one of the other winners? I don't remember when he started in movies...

I just thought of
Don Ameche
as well. He won in the mid-80s as I recall.

I thought of
John Houseman, John Gielgud, Lee Strasberg and George Burns,
but none of them panned out

Had a few more dead ends with
Sylvia Sydney and Martin Landau
but I'm pretty sure I have one with
Hal Holbrook

Believe it or not, Hal Holbrook did not make his film debut until 1966!
Of the answers given, Ameche and Tandy and Bacall and Stuart are correct.
Of the remaining four:
One, like Tandy and Ameche, actually received the award.
One was a fairly recent nominee who, along with Stuart, had to wait more than
60 years for a nomination.
One is a foreign actress who only made a couple of movies that were known in this country.
One is better known to us for television rather than movies, but managed to come out of retirement to snag a supporting nomination.

Ruby Dee? She's the one that waited 60+ years, I believe

One should be Ruth Gordon, who won for Rosemary's Baby. "I can't tell you how encouraging a thing like this is."

Well, I found a guy who waited 62 years:
Richard Farnswrth made his first film appearance in 1937, and earned a nomination in 1999 for "A Straight Story".

No, because he received a Supporting Actor nomination in 1978 for
Comes a Horseman.

He was also nominated in 1979, at least according to IMDB.

Hey, I was a youngster in the 1970s. I wasn't watching those type of movies then.

Farnsworth, like Ben Johnson, was a working stuntman for many years before graduating to more significant acting roles.

Could another one be
Peggy Ashcroft, who won Best Supporting Actress in 1984 for "A Passage to India"
?
