I don't know how many BBs are still watching this HBO series or how many were watching last night vs. the Oscars, but I do want to say this:
Best. Episode. Ever!
No distractions with outside characters, just the immediate family on a vacation to the Hill Cumorah pagant. But in one hour, they bring in all the issues affecting their family, along with some conflicts between their polygamist beliefs and mainstream Mormons and between Mormons and other faiths. Brilliant writing!

Damn! I'm sorry I missed it. I'll have to try to catch it on another night this week.
Thanks for the heads-up.

Did you know that Dustin Lance Black, nominated for writing Milk, is the executive story editor for "Big Love"?

Have you watched the episode yet, t.?
There was one thing they did, which I'm unfamiliar with. Maybe someone knows if this is a traditional Mormon custom or not?
The Hendricksons bring their own family time capsule, which they bury on Hill Cumorah for future generations to discover (reminscent of how the Book of Mormon was said to be discovered there). If that's a custom among Mormons, I'd imagine that hill would be chock full of capsules by now. And they'd certainly control the process better than letting the family just wander off to some quiet spot by themselves with a shovel.

No chance yet. Nephew still in the hospital and now hub is sick, so my 'me' time is severely restricted for the time being. I will catch it, eventually.

Finally caught the episode late last night when I got home from the hospital. You're right, Marley's, one of the best episodes in a long, long time. I'm clueless on the time capsule thing - my guess is it's simply a plot device, for the reasons you mentioned. Anyway, excellent episode - very enjoyable. Nice to see the focus back on the family dynamics.
