Any way to put an "ignore" on an entire thread so it doesn't even show up on my list of posts?

I still don't get the ignore feature.
In all the mesage boards I've been to, I've only used it once- and that was because a mod ordered me and another poster to do it, since we always got on each others' nerves.
But I would never use it by choice. Nobody can bug me that much.
