Quite a Two Week Period

At the start of last week, I found out that the father of my lifelong best friend had passed away from pancreatic cancer (died within a few months of diagnosis.)
Then, my mother-in-law called to tell us that my father-in-law had to be hospitalized last Wednesday, as we was nearly unresponsive when she woke him that morning.
He was even worse on Thursday, but my wife waited until after I could attend the funeral of my friend's dad before she rushed to Kansas City. I had planned on going down that weekend, to assist my MIL with her pre-arranged meeting on President's Day with an Elder Law attorney, as my MIL knew that she needed to have my FIL placed in a nursing home (this was prior to his hospitalization).
I ended up driving down on Friday with the Kids.
Skipping all of the voluminous details, my FIL passed away on Monday, from respiratory complications caused by his Parkinson's Disease.
Kids came home to go to school this week, but I am heading back with them in a few minutes for the family stuff and funeral services. Hard week for them.
Meanwhile, also last week, my son found out that he qualified for the oral portion of the school spelling bee. It is Monday. He has not felt like studying any of the words. I am sure that he will do his best, based on what he knows from reading and life experiences.
I also feel bad because the next dance competition is a week away, and they will have missed some practices because of all of this stuff.
