I just noticed that Amazon.com is selling the Garmin nuvi 760 Widescreen Bluetooth GPS for just $229.99!

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UX9YJ0?ta ... 7EYMEX8ZNP&

Unless you need the features of the more expensive models, this is a great deal.

I thought this was going to be a post about the accuracy of the device, and that wouldn't be much of an endorsement.

I thought it would be about their stock price. Just proves my old adage: whatever can be misinterpreted, will be misinterpreted.

I got one of the older-line Nuvis for about $100.

It's perfectly fine...I can't believe they sell some for a list price of $600.

I can't think of any functionality that would justify such a price.

Some of them have features that are better for purposes other than driving on city streets and highways -- topography, more precise GPS positioning, light weight, map selection, etc.

I looked at getting one for Adventure Boy for Christmas, but soon realized that I couldn't afford what he needed most for mountain climbing and trekking. I don't know that the $600 models are what he needs. I stopped looking before I approached $500.

The hand-held GPS units are quite different from the ones with the large displays meant for use in a car. And you shouldn't have spend nearly that much for a good one of those!

The less expensive hand-helds I saw still were road-based, as if aimed primarily at cyclists. To buy the maps for national parks in the western U.S. were an additional tidy sum on top of the basic unit. That's where I started looking. Sooner or later, the prices will come down some more, or he will have more money than I do and can buy exactly what he wants. :)

I buy a lot of things from Amazon. They have good prices and there's almost always free shipping.
I just ordered an HP photosmart printer for $69.00 no tax or shipping to replace the dinosaur I'm using
now.

I got a Garmin GPS from Costco a few weeks ago. It doesn't have bluetooth and I paid $129 for it.
My car has built in GPS but we paid $27 a day for a GPS in Louisville when we rented a car and I figured I would
get my money back just from using it when I travel and rent a car. They're small enough it's not a bother
to put it in your bag to bring with you.

I picked the female British accent for mine...she sounds so authoritative.

She sounds too PO'd when I get off track, so I use the Australian female.

When I borrowed my parents' TomTom, the British and Australian voices all used Meters. I had to find a suitable American voice to give me Miles & Yards.
