I need some how-to advice for Quickbooks Pro.

I basically use Quickbooks to simply keep track of my customers and inventory. I enter the customers and the inventory as I buy it and then use Quickbooks to keep track of who buys what from that inventory.

Now, since I am at the end of the year what I want to do is start a new year for my company's records. I want to keep all the company info and configuration information. I want the new database to maintain all of my customer records but to start fresh with inventory I buy for this year so that I can track what my customers buy this year. I would also like to keep the history of what my customers bought last year so that if I need to see all of the history for a particular customer, I can do that. I don't know if that's possible but that is what I would like to accomplish. But, the main thing is to start a new file with inventory purchased this year. Is this possible? If so, how would I go about setting that up?

The reason I ask is that I see my company file sitting at around 47Mb and I don't know a) how big the file can actually go without seriously affecting performance and b) how much data QB can actually put into one file.

I don't use the inventory part of Quickbooks.

I love the additional reports I can make with Quickbooks Pro.

I just wish that customers of mine that use Quickbooks would learn how to really use it. Most have no clue and that leads me to having no clue. Well, I have no clue sometimes anyway, but still.

I only used a small portion of QB to prepare and track some contracting invoices, and that was years and a machine ago. Sorry if this is obvious, but is it possible to save your current file under a new name and then go in and delete all of the inventory? Usually, it's a lot faster to copy and gut than to build anew.

I had thought of that but I need the capability to be able to go into a customer's history and I did not know if I deleted the used inventory if that would affect the history aspect. I don't know if I am asking too much of Quickbooks or not. I was just curious if we had any expects out there that might be able to answer my questions. Thanks.

Have you tried Googling for help? I have often been surprised by the amount of help I find when Googling a java or SQL question.

Actually, I posted my question in the forum you noted. But, the responses from these forums are often very slow in coming and I figured we may have someone that is knowledgeable on the product here.
