Out Of The Mouth Of Babes - Cat Deeley

On today's show, Cat said something to the effect that "this doesn't even seem like a quiz show -- it's more like a dating show." I liked her unusual candor. I got the impression that she'd rather get back to the questions and answers. She even called the show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" today, at least twice. I don't think I've heard any host call it by its actual name since 2002. I'm starting to like Cat Deeley. I hope that trend continues.

Knowing the full name of the show is good.
If she starts interacting with the contestants as if it were a quiz show and not a dating/talk show, she'll get my endorsement.
If she mentions the Phone Game, I'll drive down to NYC to crown her queen!

I'm glad that somebody on the show admitted that WWTBAM is not a quiz show anymore.

In recent years the only true quiz show on TV has been Jeopardy! It is the only one that targets trivia buffs as contestants or as viewers.

I was wondering what show I was watching-BAM or "The Bachelor"!!
The second contestant PROPOSED to his girlfriend ON STAGE. He got out of the Hot Seat and gave her a ring. She said "Yes"

I wonder if he told the APs he would do that.

She seemed much too happy to be hosting the Proposal Game.

Of course, this was all approved by the APs. Nothing takes place during the bantering sessions without them vetting it and the usual rules don't even allow a contestant to turn around and look at his or her companions.

BAM hasn't been a quiz show since they got Meredith to host it. She's a former reporter, and reporters are supposed to talk to people to find out about them. She seems to do that a lot.
I also think the audition process has a lot to do with the non-quiz show aspect of BAM. We see people who have some sort of "hook" (i.e. having/recently had a baby, losing their job/house/car, needing to pay off debt/student loans) or some personality quirk that the APs think is "
GOOD TV that will provide Meredith with "talking points" for the bantering she does with the contestants.
I STILL think an online test would produce smarter contestants who know their trivia. Look what it did for Jeopardy!-they routinely give away tons of money now.

I would date her if I was single, of course remembering how things went in my singles years, she wouldn't date me. Foxy lady!

Yes she is, but as I said in one of the recap threads, she's taking too much time. I want to see more Millionaire and less chit-chat.

If you're referring to the show, no. If you're referring to Kazoo's post . . . . --Bob

Um, wow. I really haven't been paying attention, have I?
I may actually have to turn on WWTBAM this week.
And, for once, the questions and answers may not be what I'm focused on.

She's sweet, but she's talking too much and for too long, and is trying a little too hard to be adorable. I'm finding it quite irritating...
sorry, guys.
Bring back my Meredith!

After 3 agonizing days watching this chick, I have a question. Who the hell is she?

The only thing I know about her is that she's the "Ryan Seacrest" for FOX's dance competition show, "So You Think You Can Dance?" I don't know about any of her other credits.

She is from Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, West Midlands.
Marley I suspect will recognize the first place name (Sutton Coldfield). For two different but connected reasons.
I assume this is a Midlands accent she has, and I know little of it. I have no Smiths or Morrissey in my record collection, but I do have Herman's Hermits. I shall listen to "Mrs Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter" to see if the vowels are similar. Or Noone may have been doing generic music hall cute, playing to the American market.

Alas, I do not. And I've scanned through its entry on
Wikipedia and I still don't see what you might be referring to. Something connected to my biographer, Mr. Dickens?

From chess. Does that ring a bell? Or start things ticking?

No bells. No ticking.
Googling...
So Sutton Coldfield is home to the House of Staunton, whence comes the Staunton-style chess sets?
I did not know that.

I will say Cat is attractive, but certainly not hot. I don't mind her hosting but I have liked other 'subs" better.

art-decoish style of chess clock, they say, which to me looked just like two alarm clocks hooked together. (I suppose that what a chess clock FWIW)
http://www.crumiller.com/chess/chess_pa ... sTimer.htm
And, probably related, also mailing address for a bunch of chess related items including at tleast at one time Chess (Sutton Coldfield).

I don't recall seeing that style before, but that is the essential functionality of a chess clock: two clocks connected by buttons that will stop one clock while starting the other. The clocks also have some flag mechanism that will drop when the minute hand reaches the top of the hour.
