Had a great four-day weekend full of lots of doings.

1. The "Nerd Herd" returned my computer after their second attempt to fix the problem that I took it in with - the first time they had only done a virus removal, which was not the problem. And they gave us a credit for 1/3 of the original cost to compensate us for not fixing it right. When I got the computer home and hooked it up I found that they had done some serious changes to my setup, including eliminating a lot of desktop icons and the Favorites under Internet Explorer. Moreover they somehow managed to damage my Microsoft Office applications - none of them would start without some error messages. These problems were not insurmountable but were annoying.

2. elwing and I managed to get to the fitness center three days out of the four, and we go back today for our regular biweekly visit.

3. elwing ordered a new bed - our current one hasn't held up well (and it's a replacement for the original that we purchased after the fire) so she decided to make a change. Some time this week we'll be receiving a Sleep Number® bed; elwing has had her eye on one of these for some time. I'm skeptical that it will make much of a difference (I sleep like a log and can sleep under most any circumstances).

I suspect you've found only a small part of the damage the "Nerd Herd" did to your system. :(

I can handle missing files and such (I backup my system religiously), although it's an annoyance when I encounter one (because they shouldn't have had to delete anything - or should have asked before doing so). I suspect their excuse would be that the files were "corrupt" or "tainted". On the whole the system does run faster and smoother than it did before, and it DOES recognize the video card without fail.

You went to the Buy-More? Did you check out the yogurt shop next door?
