Time for another edition of Tuesday Wordplay, where there's a certain word that will recur more often than a kidney stone....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. I've listened to preachers
I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules

2. He takes me to a movie, or to a restaurant, to go
Slow dancing, anything I want
Only when he's with me, I catch light
Only when he gives me, makes me feel alright

3. I've been smiling lately
Dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be
Something good's bound to come

4. All of you brothers over in Africa
Tell all the folks in Egypt, and Israel, too

5. You must explain why this must be
Did you lie when you spoke to me

6. So tired that I couldn't even sleep
So many secrets I couldn't keep
Promised myself I wouldn't weep
One more promise I couldn't keep

7. You wave your hand and they scatter like crows
They have nothing that'll ever capture your heart
They're just thorns without the rose
Be careful of them in the dark

8. And I must go, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home

9. Well the Illinois Central
And the Southern Central Freight
Gotta keep on pushin' mama
You know they're runnin' late

10. So he pawned all his hopes
and he even sold his old car
Bought a one way ticket
To the life he once knew

11. It was one of those nights
One of those nights
When you feel the world stop turning
You were standing there
There was music in the air

12. I wanna take you home with me, to be alone with me
And I can see you wanna hide it, come on, just divide it
And please don't knock it, until you ride it

I suspect you HAVE heard it, just don't recognize it as such, since it doesn't contain the words "Train in Vain". If there's a Clash song that you think of as maybe being called "Stand By Me", it's that one.

Vague!
1. I've listened to preachers
I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules

Crazy Train, Ozzy Osbourne. You don't know how bummed I was to discover the theme was "train" and not "crazy".............. :P

2. He takes me to a movie, or to a restaurant, to go
Slow dancing, anything I want
Only when he's with me, I catch light
Only when he gives me, makes me feel alright

Morning Gag Train, Sheena Gag Easton

3. I've been smiling lately
Dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be
Something good's bound to come

Peace Train, Cat Yusuf Stevens Islam

4. All of you brothers over in Africa
Tell all the folks in Egypt, and Israel, too

Love Train, one of them Spinners-type groups

5. You must explain why this must be
Did you lie when you spoke to me

Train in Vain, the Clash

6. So tired that I couldn't even sleep
So many secrets I couldn't keep
Promised myself I wouldn't weep
One more promise I couldn't keep

Either Runaway Train or Downtown Train.. :P

7. You wave your hand and they scatter like crows
They have nothing that'll ever capture your heart
They're just thorns without the rose
Be careful of them in the dark

Either Runaway Train or Downtown Train.. :P One is Rod Stewart and the other sounds like Tom Petty, but isn't. Vague enough? Don't bother even scoring these last two....

8. And I must go, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home

Last Train to Clarksville, Monkees

9. Well the Illinois Central
And the Southern Central Freight
Gotta keep on pushin' mama
You know they're runnin' late

The Doobie Brothers song that must have "train" in the title, but all I know is Without Love, Where Would You Be Now.

10. So he pawned all his hopes
and he even sold his old car
Bought a one way ticket
To the life he once knew

Midnight Train to Georgia, Gladys Knight. She has a restaurant in Atlanta, and The Midnight Train is chicken wings and waffles. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........

11. It was one of those nights
One of those nights
When you feel the world stop turning
You were standing there
There was music in the air

Nope. All I have left in reserve is that "train kept a rollin all night long" song, and this doesn't fit...

12. I wanna take you home with me, to be alone with me
And I can see you wanna hide it, come on, just divide it
And please don't knock it, until you ride it

Something like Come On and Ride It, Ride That Train, or some such. How about put it down as a "nope"....

sigh....

"Train"
? Well, there are two more. I don't know their lyrics, but I know that songs with these titles do exist.
Spoiler
If I'm not mistaken, one of our Bored Buddies is named after one of these songs. It's "Train in Vain" by the Clash and that will be my guess for #5. Certainly, one of the two I'm blanking on has to be that song. I don't think Beast would dare do a train-themed LS without including the obvious BB shout-out.

Speaking of obvious BB shout-outs, I have to take a stab at #11 with "Lonesome Train" by our beloved J.J. Cale. And even if one of the remaining two songs isn't "Lonesome Train", I should get some JJCPs for at least going for a legitimate J.J. Cale song. Yeah, I know, I'm starting to become a point whore like Clem. Sue me. :D

JJC Points:

Mini got 2 JJC points for her vague answers on Runaway Train and Downtown Train...

Melo gets 2 JJC points for the on-topic inclusion of a JJ Cale song...

TBone gets 2 JJC points for his hilarious take on Morning Train... I had never thought of that before...

Clem gets 3 JJC points despite his continuing attempts to piss me off. I almost gave him another JJC point because at lunch last night we brought up Billy Joel, and one of the guys I work with first said "Piano Man" then said.... I swear to fucking God... "Captain Jack". I really had to work to stifle a laugh when he said that....

Estonut got half a JJC point for belatedly hoping I was better, and another half a JJC point for somewhat referring to mini as a bitch....

Ha! I guess it doesn't matter if you're betting something you don't have as long as you know it's a sure thing..... and how sappy am I that seeing Cox in a sequined conductor's cap while strobe lights go crazy makes me tear up every time I see it?
