My mom's on the way to the E.R.

She's in Florida, and I feel so helpless. Lately she's been having a lot of trouble with pain in her left leg. A couple of years ago she was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis, which they think is what causes the pain. When the leg is really bad, she gets some kind of shot in her back and it relieves the pain for a while... until the next time. Shot, Rinse, Repeat, etc.
Her latest shot was Wednesday. Yesterday she called to say she was feeling uncomfortable, and her body and especially her face was getting all red and hot. She phoned the Dr. who called her in something for allergies, even tho she hadn't had this reaction to the shot in the past. It's not getting better, hence the E.R.
Trying to get info from her on what the shot and medication were is like pulling teeth, as she can never remember what anything is called. Thankfully, we have a cousin out there who is going to take her to the emergency room right now, so I hope I'll know something more soon.

Allergies can develop, so even if you haven't had a reaction before, you can't rule it out. My sister developed an allergy to her allergy shot!
Definitely stuff for the ER, though. You don't mess around in case the throat starts swelling shut.
Wishing for good news from here...

I developed an allergic reaction to a drug a few years ago, that I had taken off and on for 6 months. Then one night I'm laying in bed feeling like I'm struggling for breath...throat closed up, face swelled up, I was red, hot, nauseous, etc. Good call on the emergency room, they can give her what she needs to counteract it.
Keep us posted. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery!

Hope they can get her allergy relief, it that's what this is. If not, a fix for whatever it really is.

The doctors and your cousin will take good care of your mom, Second Chance.
In the meantime, breathe and try to stay calm, until you learn what's what.

I'm looking for an update as well. I have a good friend who was finally diagnosed with spinal stenosis
and I know it can be quite painful and difficult to treat. I hope your mom is OK. Please let us know
how she's doing. My thoughts are with you and your family. Kay

So, mom was at the hospital for around 8 hours. They gave her fluids and some medications and finally sent her home with 4 prescriptions - I had her read them to me over the phone. There was a benedryl, a prednisone, a pepsid, and hydrocodone. I told her not to take the hydro, as she wasn't in a great deal of pain anymore, and it's made her nauseous & dizzy in the past. She says she's doing much better. I'm relieved. And appreciate the concern over here, very much. It's really tough being so far away, but it stresses her too much to consider packing up and moving here by me. She may not have much choice, after too long...
