As much as I wish I could have thrown together somethign special for Friday the 13th (At least I'll get another chance for the LS finale next month), today's game will be the second in our three part series in which I pick a song that charted every year from 1958 to 2008. This edition takes a look at every third year from 1959 to 2007. You do not necessarily have to choose the artist who had the hit that year to get credit, but it must stull fall under my normal vague rules for who will be accepted as a proper artist for the song....

As usual, this game is open until Monday morning sometime after 7:00 CST....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. (1959) Measles make you bumpy
And mumps'll make you lumpy
And chicken pox'll make you jump and twitch

2. (1962) If I found a lucky penny
I'd toss it across the bay
Your love is worth all the gold on earth
No wonder that I say

3. (1965) Take me for a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship
All my senses have been stripped
And my hands can't feel to grip

4. (1968) The note said, "Mrs. Johnson, you're wearing your dresses way too high
It's reported you've been drinking and a-runnin' 'round with men and going wild
And we don't believe you ought to be bringing up your little girl this way"

5. (1971) You'll swear you've heard it before
As it slowly rambles on and on.
No need in bringing em back
Cause they've never really gone

6. (1974) There's a whistle up above
And people pushin', people shovin'
And the girls who try to look pretty

7. (1977) And where are you now
Now that I need you
Tears on my pillow
Wherever you go

8. (1980) Showers wash
All my cares away
I wake up to a sunny day

9. (1983) Past corrugated tin shacks holed up with kids and
Man I don't mean a Hampstead nursery.
But when you own a big chunk of the bloody third world,
The babies just come with the scenery

10. (1986) Some are black and some are white
Ain't to proud to sleep on the floor tonight
With the blind faith of Jesus you know that they just might

11. (1989) And as a matter of fact, it blows my mind
You would even talk to me
Because a girl like you is a dream come true
A real life fantasy

12. (1992) take your time
hurry up
the choice is yours
don't be late

13. (1995) Little precious has a natural obsession
For temptation but he just can't see
She gives him lovin' that his body can't handle
But all he can say is baby it's good to me

14. (1998) Baby when we're grinding
I get so excited
Ooh, how I like it
I try but I can't fight it

15. (2001) But everything I can't remember
As fucked up as it all may seem
The consequences that I've rendered
I've stretched myself beyond my means

16. (2004) Let's talk this over
It's not like we're dead
Was it something I did?
Was it something You said?

17. (2007) I want to dive into you
Forget what you're going through
I get behind, make your move
Forget about the truth

4. (1968) The note said, "Mrs. Johnson, you're wearing your dresses way too high
It's reported you've been drinking and a-runnin' 'round with men and going wild
And we don't believe you ought to be bringing up your little girl this way"

Must be Harper Valley PTA...Jeannie...C? B? Riley

1. (1959) Measles make you bumpy
And mumps'll make you lumpy
And chicken pox'll make you jump and twitch

Poison Ivy. I know it's one of the great harmony groups, but I think it's too new for the Ink Spots and too old for the Temptations. That's all I can think of right now, so I'll go with the Temptations.

2. (1962) If I found a lucky penny
I'd toss it across the bay
Your love is worth all the gold on earth
No wonder that I say

Oh, be my little
Good luck charm. . .

Hope the title's in there somewhere. Elvis Presley.

3. (1965) Take me for a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship
All my senses have been stripped
And my hands can't feel to grip

Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, Bob Dylan

4. (1968) The note said, "Mrs. Johnson, you're wearing your dresses way too high
It's reported you've been drinking and a-runnin' 'round with men and going wild
And we don't believe you ought to be bringing up your little girl this way"

Harper Valley PTA, Jeannie C. Riley.

8. (1980) Showers wash
All my cares away
I wake up to a sunny day

I love a rainy night, Edward Hare

9. (1983) Past corrugated tin shacks holed up with kids and
Man I don't mean a Hampstead nursery.
But when you own a big chunk of the bloody third world,
The babies just come with the scenery

Middle of the Road, Chrissy Hynde. I mean, the Pretenders. She was on "In the Studio" Friday night, so I got to listen for about 15 minutes of drive time as she talked about her very early early career and this song. She's amazing.

10. (1986) Some are black and some are white
Ain't to proud to sleep on the floor tonight
With the blind faith of Jesus you know that they just might

R-O-C-K in the USA, Mellencamp. Add first and middle names as appropriate.

I was interrupted, finished up, hit submit, and had to log back in because I took so long.

Got back in and realized I hadn't spoilerized, so edited only to add the spoiler.

I was about to make a post for you to spoilerize it since I didn't want to do it myself and get my peepee cut off, though it may help my current situation......

Harper Valley PTA-Jeannie C. Riley. Interesting thing with this song. In the Albany NY market, there were 2 big Top 40 stations. WTRY in Troy and WPTR (with local legend Boom Boom Branigan, whom I worked with late in his career) in Albany. Each station played a version of "Harper Valley"..WPTR played the version by Riley, but WTRY played a version by Bobbi Martin. There was a lot of that type of differences between the two stations back when I was a kid. Nowadays of course every station plays the same stuff. End of old fart grumbling.

The consequences that I've rendered
I've stretched myself beyond my means
   that's about all I can say about this one

16. (2004) Let's talk this over
It's not like we're dead
Was it something I did?
Was it something You said?

17. (2007) I want to dive into you
Forget what you're going through
I get behind, make your move
Forget about the truth

As you can see, if it was past 1968 I didn't have a clue on any of them. Thanks for making me feel old, LB!!

How dare you edit my post!! I even previewed and it looked fine to me. Sorry to cause you
trouble and I hope no one has a scalpel nearby. 8)
