Join me in celebrating the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin. (And also Abraham Lincoln.)
Why does Lincoln get a footnote?MarleysGh0st wrote:Join me in celebrating the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin. (And also Abraham Lincoln.)

Yes, which is why I didn't neglect to mention him completely. The USA officially remembers him with the Presidents Day holiday on Monday. Meanwhile, today is an international celebration of Darwin Day.Jeemie wrote:Why does Lincoln get a footnote?MarleysGh0st wrote:Join me in celebrating the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin. They both made major contributions in the 19th Century.

But, by all means, feel free to start your own thread in honor of President Lincoln.

I'm an only child, what do you want? I have no excuse for it! But it worked!! I didn't get presents but there was always cake and festivities...I actually looked forward to it, as though it was a real cause for celebration. I think I abandoned it around the time I went to college. Although I did force someone to say "happy half birthday" to me yesterday, and actually made them feel bad for not saying it on their own.Jeemie wrote:"Half-birthday"?sunflower wrote:And yesterday was my "half birthday". Lol...no! It was a very old friend, I was kidding when I said, "after all these years, how could you miss my half birthday?? aren't you even going to say happy half birthday??" So he said it, and I got a free dinner. But the dinner was at Taco Bell.ulysses5019 wrote:sunflower wrote:I'm an only child, what do you want? I have no excuse for it! But it worked!! I hope it wasn't a potential boyfriend.
Actually, officially, the US doesn't. See the list of federal holidays:MarleysGh0st wrote:Yes, which is why I didn't neglect to mention him completely. Imagine how different the world would have been if she wasn't booed off the stage at that open-mike performance in the late '50s when she mentioned that 'Socialism is so bad' at which point the audience yelled out 'How bad is it?' and she went on for 30 minutes with nothing but 'Socialism is so bad that....' jokes.nitrah55 wrote:Actually, officially, the US doesn't. Happy 200th Birthday, Abe. And Charile.
Interesting confluence of birthdays, but not my favorite. On October 13, 1925 were born Margaret Thatcher and Lenny Bruce.
Right. I get Monday off for George Washington's Birthday. Presidents' Day is a state holiday in about a dozen states.nitrah55 wrote:Actually, officially, the US doesn't.
