HIIIIIII-YOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Ed McMahon coming to you live from beautiful downtown Burbank to host today's Theme Thursday edition of Lyrically Speaking! I couldn't pass up the opportunity to lend my vast announcer skills to this fine contest for LB, especially when he offered me five bucks to do it. Hey, I only have so much stuff left in my house that isn't either in the hock shop or on eBay....

Fanny, you are not allowed to play this game until you have CALLED YOUR PHYSICIAN!!!!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and 3 points for the theme.....

And now ladies and gentlemen......

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERE'S Beastie!!!

1. So much for your promises
They died the day you let me go
Caught up in a web of lies
But it was just too late to know

2. Cause they'll be rockin on bandstand
In Philadelphia P.A.
Deep in the heart of Texas
And 'round the Frisco Bay

3. Can't stand the thought of you with somebody else
Got to have your love got to have it all to myself
I say yeah yeah yeah yeah

4. So take me as I am
This may mean you'll have to be a stronger man
Rest assured that when I start to make you nervous
and I'm going to extremes
tomorrow I will change
and today won't mean a thing

5. I know now that you're not a plaything
Not a toy or a puppet on a string
Today we passed on the street
And you just walked on by
My heart just fell to my feet

6. A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys

7. What I've got they used to call the blues
Nothin' is really wrong
Feelin' like I don't belong
Walkin' around
Some kind of lonely clown

8. When you were a child you were treated kind
But you were never brought up right.
You were always spoiled with a thousand toys but still you cried all night.

9. Living life is fun and we've just begun
To get our share of the world's delights
(HIGH!) high hopes we have for the future
And our goal's in sight

10. Two worlds collide
Rival nations
It's a primitive clash
Venting years of frustrations

11. Undo this hurt you caused
When you walked out the door
And walked outta my life

12. I'll be fine when you're gone,
I'll just cry all night long,
Say it isn't true

Theme?

I've held off because Meisha's theme came to me out of the blue hours after I posted, but I'm throwing in the towel on this one. There's love and hearts and Ed McMahon (because I KNOW it's not coincidence that he is today's game poster) and it all adds up to a bunch of WTF. But I'm going to say sports themes because I know the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates used Sister Sledge as their theme song, and I seem to recall 19th Nervous Breakdown being used in some sports fashion. Although I can't imagine that you'd do sports players' themes and not have Crazy Train for Larry Walker! But I have nothing better.

I'll just cry all night long,
Say it isn't true

Every so often a song has a # in the title; hey, I tried. "Cluelessly" I am sure. Also with "unmitigated gall".

I really suck at this game. I feel compelled to continue playing because your choices are very clever. Who really listens to the lyrics, anyway? Oh wait! I know: Everyone but me does!!! So much for my lame attempt to earn a JJC point for sucking up to the host...

[T-Bone]A while before her solo success with "Bitch" and the "Blurring the Edges" album, Meredith Brooks was in a band called the Graces with Go-Go's guitarist Charlotte Caffey. They had a song called "Lay Down Your Arms" that was popular in SoCal (KROQ-land). I think that was their only album[/T-Bone]

Many ideas, but nothing that fits consistently fits. For the longest time, I was thinking it was something in honor of the return of Survivor, or about reality shows in general.

I will go with "12 Songs with Absolutely Nothing to Do with Ed McMahon." That's probably not right, either, is it, you bastige! I hate themes.

Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue - Crystal Gayle (Thrown in just for my Fanny when I realized it fit the theme...)

Theme? - All 12 of these songs Peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100! That's why I gave this game to famed second banana Ed McMahon to host. I have no doubt Fishie would have gotten this theme had he played.....

JJC Points:

Marley gets 3 JJC points for a great tribute to ES!

Kay gets 3 JJC points for invoking my sisters and calling me a spoiled brat...

TLITF gets a JJC point for Rocky XV...

Mini gets 2 JJC points for recommending a better MM I could have hosted this game with than Ed McMahon after I told her what the theme was. She suggested I should have used Kitty Sandwich, though had I thought of that connection with the theme, I'd have used Chronic Diarrhea....

TBone gets a JJC point for The Fabulous Moolah, who shows up all the classic wrestling star figures collection in the Toy department... yet I have no recollection of this wrestler at all, but they look like a real winner....

Fanny gets the supermax of 5 JJC points for her perfect play off of the little tiff with ghost yesterday. It is the best answer I've seen in the game since melly used "Atomic Dong"...

Not to be outdone, ghost got 3 JJC points by proving to me that she does actually read my posts even if she doesn't always respond to them....

Panic got 3 JJC points for hanging in there and sucking up to the Meister....

Clem didn't put forth his usual effort, but I gave him a JJC point anyway...

Estonut gets a humor JJC point...
