I watched.

I couldn't stop crying.

The letter from the daughter of the Holocaust survivor who lives in one of the building he could have hit with the aircraft put me over the edge.

I also love how he keeps saying it isn't about him - his whole crew saved those people.

He also said we needed hope and we got it from Flight 1549.

His wife also ignored his call waiting 3 times before she picked up to hear he was okay. Made me laugh.

I totally forgot to set the DVR. I hope they show it again, or have it available on on demand.

Two questions/answers that I remember being a little humorous.

Did the time slow down like in slow motion?

No, but he wished it had.

Did he pray?

He thought others in the back were taking care of that part.

I feel badly for the flight attendant that still can not put on her uniform. She may need some counseling to get over the flight.

I would imagine they could retire with pay after something like this happens. The cost of not having all the lawsuits they would have had, would make up for it.

But maybe MMFF knows.

The attendant from the back of the plane contradicted that original report of "no back doors were opened; the crew knew enough not to open them; that's why the plane didn't sink".

She says that a passenger opened a or the back door, & she (knowing that the water would then rush in & sink the plane) tried to get it closed, but of course there's no real way to get that closed once its been opened. She was up to her neck in water before she left the plane.

I have no doubt that what happened in the back of the plane was not what happened in the front. I have no doubt that it was a different landing in the back. I do not hear that she is complaining.

I hear that she is suffering, more than likely from PTSD. That is what I meant. I hope she gets the help she needs.

I saw the subject heading of this, and until I clicked on the thread and read it, all I could think of was the big blue furry creature from Monsters, Inc.

The CBS Morning Show had multiple segments on Flight 1549 this morning.

I dvr'd it.

There was a woman and her mom on the plane. The showed how the held hands and braced together (heads down - as far down as two elderly woman can do).

The mom told the daughter to leave her and go. When the mom was asked about it, she said something about her daughter having grandkids and all - so she had a life left. The daughter said there was no way she was leaving her. Then, later on, the mom was shown in a wheelchair. Made me wonder if the mom was injured in the crash, such that she was in a wheelchair now, or if she was in a wheelchair before the flight.

Made my heart sink thinking of sitting next to my mom and crashing.

We watched this with my friend who was on the plane. He was seated in 6B and was not aware of the commotion in the back - he exited unto the wing (on the other side of the plane) then when the plane was empty he saw the raft up front was not full and went back in the plane into the front raft on the right side of the plane.

He helped with the elderly woman as they struggled to get her off the raft onto the ferry - she was only slightly ambulatory.

He and his wife were at the session with the crew here in Charlotte. He didn't get interviewed for 60 minutes - if you watch the 6:38 section of video on the Reunion his wife is standing behind Sully and a passenger at the 2:14 mark of that video - she is wearing a blue blouse and has short red hair. At the 3:00 mark when they show Sully leaving and the crowd applauding he is in the middle of the picture waving rather than clapping.

Did they ever give him and the other passengers their carry-on luggage? Or their checked luggage? How did they handle refunds for those who didn't reach their intended destination? Did they still get their full frequent flyer miles, or were they prorated for just the distance from LaGuardia to the Hudson River?

Actually, they think they have recovered a good deal of the luggage.

One of my co-workers heard a radio report and they said they were drying stuff out and trying to get it back to the passengers. One guy had backed up his computer unfortunately to another computer on board. They had recovered both and were trying to get the data recovered for him.

He has not recieived any items back from USAir - he was told it would be a while before he did. The accident happened on a Thursday - the following Tuesday he received a check for $5,000 plus the value of his return airfare (a majority of the passengers were returning to Charlotte on business - I don't know what they did for others who had more extensive plans). If he had returned to LAGuardia to fly home they would have flown him gratis. They told him they were sending this because they would inventory all recovered items before returning them and that it could be a long time before that happens.

He has been contacted by the insurer for USAir about additional property damage claims - if the value of lost property was greater than $5,000 they will evaluate his claim. He was traveling on business and when company equipment is included it will likely exceed $5,000.

No mention of claims for Emotional distress, pain & suffering or PTSD have been discussed - he seems to not want to pursue anything of this type. Unless negligence can be proved it is probably difficult for anyone to pursue these as I understand the legal angles. It is intereting to note that under Worker's Comp Laws if the flight attendent has lasting problems that keep her from working again she may be able to recover lost wages. A passenger who was on business and can't recvoer damages may also have some ability under WC laws.

He has also been told he has been upgraded to the highest level of Frequent flyer status for the next year. There are 4 levels at USAir - he has been in 2nd level for a couple of years - so this bumps him 2 tiers for a year.
