...of seeing Sonic commericals!! The closest one is 156 miles away from my house, according to their website!! Sure, the stuff always looks so good, but I have limits on how far I'll go! For at least the last three years, we've been bombarded with these commercials, I keep thinking we'll get one, but we haven't yet.
I'm also just really tired in general...ready for the weekend already!!

I think I had Sonic once when I was pregnant with my oldest. The meat was like school-cafeteria beef.
No wonder they advertise the prices and the drinks rather than the actual food. You ain't missing a thing.

Agreed on both counts. Don't bother with Sonic, though. GW and I stopped at one when we were last out in Wichita, just because we'd seen the commercials and wanted to try it. Service was slow; we were almost the only ones there and it took forever to get our small order. The beverages that they had been touting in the ads at that time were mediocre at best. We were singularly unimpressed.
Our tiredness is GW's fault. She was nice to our kittehs on Saturday and made them catnip-filled cloth mice. One of the beasts insists on playing with it in our bedroom. At 3 AM.

That's good to know!! The drinks are what always look so good to me. Maybe I'll have to hit one next time I go somewhere...for some reason when I'm on vacation, going to Sonic is not my first priority, lol.

Well, don't get a craving for an In-N-Out Burger. They're only in the west but they are the best.

If sunflower wants to go on a vacation in search of good fast food, that's what I'd recommend!

I already have plans to go there next month when I'm in Vegas!

Well there's at least one in Las Vegas. There might even be some single guys there.

One time on a trip Mrs. SSS and I decided to stop at a Sonic to try it out. The main reason we wanted to stop was to give us a chance to get out of the car and stretch our legs. We found out that Sonic only had drive through or "eat in the car" service.
No thanks.

Best thing, and perhaps the only good thing, about Sonic is their Happy Hour. 1/2 price drinks from 2-4PM everyday.
So we go there, wait an inappropriately long time, get to really large diet Cokes, and maybe slushies for the kids. As long as you're not in a hurry, its a great deal. But don't spoil it my taking them up on some chili-cheese tots or other 'food' items.

My parents love Sonic, and will drive as far as they have to to eat at one....
I have never eaten there and have no desire to do so....

The cherry limeade is pretty good. But I am not likely to go just for that and have been trying to cut back on the fast food in my diet. I love Wendy's hamburgers and have to force myself not to stop there more often than I already do!

My condo complex is across the street from a Wendy's. I ate there almost every day for a month when I was renovating before I moved in, and since then, I've eaten there maybe 8 - 10 times in the last 6 years! I'm not big on fast food, unless you count Subway or the prepared food section of Whole Foods.

I live about a mile away from two different Sonics. I never go to them. I think the last time I did was more than 20 years ago. Maybe I should give them another chance.

Sonic, not so much.
In-N-Out, not so much either.
Give me a Steak n Shake anyday. Trouble is the closest one to me is Iowa or Wisconsin.

The Sonic was "the" place to hang out after school and on Friday and Saturday nights in my hometown. Well, Fridays only when it wasn't football season.
I wouldn't be able to count the number of Cherry-Vanilla Sprites I consumed there over the years.
I love their Cheese Tots, too.

I have never eaten at a Steak n Shake...but anytime I am near one, I go get a strawberry shake. They rock. I almost missed a flight in Myrtle Beach because of Steak n Shake...well, it was probably because of traffic, but the 20 minutes I waited in the drive through for my shake seemed like a bad call as I was running through the airport!!

I don't eat their food, but they do have good drinks (I'm talking vanilla cokes, flavored teas and
a decent hot Latte). However, do NOT order one of their Java Chillers. I found out the hard way that
it's essentially a coffee flavored, way too thick milk shake. They fill the cups too full and I had to go straight
home and change clothes as it oozed out of the cup and spilled all over me. It was a huge mess and I was not happy.
The picture on the sign looks wonderful, though.
The good news is I checked the calories in it (536!) so I'm glad I had to throw it away and I know I will
never order another one.
We have Steak and Shakes here as well, but I've never been to one. Maybe I should check it sometime.

I'm not checking the Steak and Shake calorie count, I bet they are high as well! I just always justify it as a meal, so it's not that bad. Just getting the shake and no other food seems like a good tradeoff! I honestly don't know what else is on the menu - real steak? At a drive through? I don't know...
Sounds like Sonic is pretty much all around a bust. I'm not missing anything, now I just wish they would stop showing their commercials here!!!

1. No steak at Steak 'n Shake. The "Steak" in the name is for their Steakburgers.
2. I think going through the drive-thru at Steak and Shake misses the point of Steak and Shake. They make real food and then they bring to your table. It's a diner. I don't drive-thru at a diner.
3. I miss Steak and Shake. Especially going there in the middle of the night.
Now that I've said all that I've discovered that there is a Steak 'n Shake in Houston. I"ll be there this weekend. Hooray for this thread.
Sonic? I was not impressed.

156 miles from Sunflower might sound like the northeast Philly burbs, and sure enough there is one in Bensalem PA down the road from the IRS center.
Maybe they should run the ads here, as if I would be listening.
I'm saving my empty calories for Pat's or Geno's.

Mini's right. You are not missing anything where the food is concerned.
If you want drinks only, the Happy Hour deal is great! I took SteelersFanNephew on a rather ill-advised adventure when he was out here a couple years ago, and we both got very dehydrated. We got to Sonic during Happy Hour and got something like a gallon of drinks for around $1.25.

I wish there was Steak n Shake around here - it's the best burger I can remember. Even better than In & Out and Wendys. The cheese fries and the chili were really good too. Haven't had it in decades, since when I lived in Illinois. Now I'm having major cravings. And can't do a dang thing about it.
There are no Sonics around here either, or Long John Silver's, but the commercials/ads are relentless. Sheesh. Have never tried a Sonic, but do love L.J.S. Teases.
Recently discovered that the local Krispy Kremes packed up and left.

Yeah, our Krispy Kreme left a while back. The building became a Citigroup office, which also left. I think there still might be one at Mohegan Sun, but I'm not sure. It's unfortunate, I did like their donuts.
We do have a Long John Silver's, but it's inside the Taco Bell. When faced with the choice, I would pick Taco Bell...always. I have never eaten at LJS.
I will have to try the Steak n Shake burgers next time...although in the big quest to conserve calories, if I had to choose I think the shake will still win out!
