Stoopid Zelda game
I've been playing Twilight Princess on the Wii. I'm doing okay with the dungeons, though very grateful I got a copy of their guide and equally so that your deaths are temporary in this one (a major drawback, IMO, with earlier games). My issue is the STAR game that gives you a larger quiver (no wisecracks!) so you can hold more arrows. Given my general ineptitude in the archery department, I want it. I can't win the game to get it. None of the web walkthroughs give me good enough hints to succeed. My problem is aiming, and the perspective your character gives you before you fire off the Clawshot.
Anyone out there a Zelda fan who can give me some help?

Twilight Princess?
Sounds suspiciously similar to Hello Kitty!

Good lord, no! The Legend of Zelda series is one of Nintendo's classics. There has been at least one for each of their game sets. Twilight Princess was the game that came with the Wii when it was first introduced, not a Mario game as you might have thought.MarleysGh0st wrote:Twilight Princess?

GW fell in love with the first version because you can pick up and throw pots, which sometimes hold money, life hearts and other goodies. They're also weapons, in a pinch. I drive, she watches out for nasties or clues that I miss. Part RPG, part logic puzzle, part maze, part arcade game. It's the arcade part in the STAR game that's driving me nuts right now. I can probably win through the dungeons with the minimal number of arrows I can carry now, but it'd be harder and requires better archery skills than I currently possess.

From a guide at gamefaqs.com:
STARS Minigame! - At Hyrule Castle Town, on the right side of the
map, you'll find a tent with a man inside standing next to a
cage. After a rather eccentric introduction, you'll be introduced
to a game where you collect a bunch of floating orbs.
There are two stages to this minigame. The first time you
may even bother to try to beat it is when you get the Clawshot.
Upon entering the cage, use the Clawshot to hook to the cage and
collect the orbs while flying from platform to platform. Lo and
behold! Collecting the orbs using a "star" pattern with the
Clawshot will allow Link to finish the minigame at least 15
seconds early.
Come back for round two after getting the double Clawshot.
Head back to the minigame, this time following the star pattern
for the second time, but ignoring to pause on platforms. This
second version is only slightly more challenging than the first,
but still a piece of cake.
Beating the minigame for the first time, Link is awarded
with a quiver that holds 60 arrows. Completing the minigame for
the second time will get you a quiver that holds 100 arrows.

Big J says that you have to make sure that you are "locked on" the target before you use the Clawshot. There is a red dot in the middle of the screen. Also, you can lock on to one target specifically while you are riding Epona if you use the lock on trigger that you use with the sword. Same for the bow.

Re: Stoopid Zelda game
Mark, I got all that. I even found a site that gives me the directions of the "star", like 12 o'clock, then 5 o'clock, etc. My problem is that after the first clawshot, I can't see in the direction I want to go and end up firing randomly. I'm sure it's some sort of timing or coordination thing I haven't figured out, like push the buttons to fire, let go, aim, and so on in a certain order.
It's gotten bad enough that my dreams last night were like I was in a real-life video game. Not good. I'm supposed to be dreaming about winning lottery numbers, or million-dollar questions.

Re: Stoopid Zelda game
I'm good at shooting baddies I can Z-target or that are stationary, like tower guards. Not so good at distant moving targets that are gonna come and smack me in a few seconds. Bosses move fast, and are formidable smackers. Fortunately, my next boss does not require shooting, only swordplay and some fancy footwork.a1mamacat wrote:Big J says that you have to make sure that you are "locked on" the target before you use the Clawshot. Clawshot lock-ons are my issue in the STAR game. It's possible that I can aim after my first shot but am too stupid or uncoordinated to manage it. All I know is that when I try to get back the aiming dot, I fire instead.
I love the games, but there are always one or two side issues like this that annoy me. I just want to grab the guy on the screen who fronts the game and threaten to shoot him if he doesn't give me the prize.

That's why I prefer turn-based strategy games.

Perfect solution. Have Big J come over and play that one for you. Cause we is gettin' old and these games weren't made for us!gsabc wrote:I'm good at shooting baddies I can Z-target or that are stationary, like tower guards. What does the cost of a round trip cross country plane ticket matter when there is a prize involved?

Re: Stoopid Zelda game
Mebbe not, but the Zelda games tend to emphasize brains over brawn. You have to figure out HOW to get through the door (or even find it), beat the boss, get past the rotating spikes, etc. Once you've got the trick, performing it is usually pretty simple. A lot of this one, for the minor beasties, is just to keep whacking them with the sword until they fall down. The trick tends to be how to get past their armor and armory, and sometimes how to make sure they stay dead. The STAR game is an aberration for me, in that I know the trick, I just can't figure out how to perform it correctly.MarleysGh0st wrote:Face it--you don't have the reflexes of a teenager any more.gsabc wrote:I love the games, but there are always one or two side issues like this that annoy me. Re: Stoopid Zelda game
I found a video here of someone who completed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOYM3Sav ... re=related
Go to the 3:00 mark. In the video notice some of the moves were only platform jumps and not all shots.
When I completed the task it took me 15-20 tries. Try using the nunchuk without lock-on aiming and needing the joystick for slight movement adjustments. When in motion with the claw push the drop button a little early. Aim for higher of two or three orbs above a platform. Dropping a little early seems to have Link facing the right way for the next move.
So, B for the claw, Aim with the remote, A for drop, repeat
Look for lines or orbs to pick off multiples at once.
