Movie website

Anyone remember the name of that website that some dude started himself just by catering to movie geeks and coming out with spoilers and news and got so popular that he could basically blackmail film makers into giving him info and trailers lest they incur the wrath of the fanboys?

I think his name was Harry and he was rather stout with glasses and curly red hair, he always reminded me of the lovechild of Bruce Vilanch and Weird Al Yankovic.

I really have no reason for needing to know this except that I was thinking of Perez Hilton who basically created himself the same way and I remembered this website. I know, why would one be thinking of Perez Hilton at 5 am... don't even try, the inside of my head is a strange and twisted place.

Anyway, I just happened to think while I was writing this, I think this cat always wore sweaterss and was kind of on the socially inept side.

I'm assuming you are referring to Ain't It Cool News by Austinite Harry Knowles. He also is responsible for the Butt-Numb-A-Thon - a 24 hour film marathon held every year in Austin. The key is that you don't know what movies will be playing in advance - usually an eclectic mix of vintage and some premiers with surprise guests. I've always wanted to go but have not attended as of yet.

Here is an exceprt from Wikipedia on the Butt-Numb-A-Thon:
Films that have been shown include the first public screening of Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, as well as the The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Dreamgirls, Chicago, Black Snake Moan, Snatch, Magnolia, Knocked Up, 300, V for Vendetta, and both the original King Kong and the 2005 remake. Guests have included Mel Gibson, Zack Snyder, Peter Jackson, Seth Rogen, Eli Roth, Craig Brewer, Bill Condon, Vin Diesel, Guillermo Del Toro, Jackie Earle Haley and McG. Some celebrity guests, such as Eli Roth, Laura Harris and Elijah Wood have attended the event, even though they may not have any films exhibited. Though he was not present for the screening of King Kong in 2005, Peter Jackson introduced the film with a video-taped message in which he was seen pointing at various locations inside the Drafthouse theater, such as the stage area and specific seats, showing intimate knowledge of the theater from previous visits.

His name is Mr. Perth Amboy. :P

No clue, obviously, but I HATE when that happens!

Was that a reference to the James Thurber story about the collapsing bed and the chaos that ensued? IIRC he was trying to remember the name of a two word town in New Jersey and it was Perth Amboy.

Yes! We were discussing this a couple of weeks ago. It's from The Night the Bed Fell, and More Alarms in the Night.

As I age, I have more frequent Perth Amboy Moments...

If they show Che, they'll only need one or two other movies to round out the schedule.

Actually, they did show Che at the fest this past December, along with 45 other films/vintage commercials.

To see the list (on Wiki) follow this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fi ... .282008.29

Reviewing the list and comparing it to other years - not one of the best IMO.

Yes, it is Harry Knowles! I seem to recall the aint-it-cool having hyphens in it.

But Austin? Really? I thought he was based in Perth Amboy.

Ha!

Harry Knowles appears as a character in the new movie Fanboys. He does not play himself. He is played by Ethan Suplee, best known for playing Randy Hickey, the brother on My Name Is Earl.

The real Harry Knowles is pretty well known around this town. Opinions about him seem to vary widely.
