Whenever a moderator shows up this morning, that message ought to be deleted, because you can bet that URL will be someplace nobody should visit.

I guess I'm nobody.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Well, if you brought your crocoduck with you, it might have been OK. But I hope you've got your PC updated with all its security patches, if you tried that link. Not that I know for sure, since I didn't try it. I'm just saying...

I brought this issue to Dave's attention before I went to bed last night. He was up, as I notice he did some fiddling around in the admin control panel, and got rid of another creep that showed up after I went to bed, but obviously that did stop another one this morning.

Unfortunately, what's probably gonna end up happening if this doesn't stop is the membership requirement is gonna have to be upgraded, which will suck big time especially for MM's.....

I haven't noticed much spamming.

Are we really getting that much, and it's just the mods doing an awesome job that I'm not seeing it?

If so, kudos to the mods!

Oh, dear!

You know, I was wondering what newbies must think of this place if they look through our members list and notice a huge number of members strangely classified as "Merry Men"?

Once there was a lovely board discussion a lovely television show. We had intelligent discussions, not fan-person stuff (for the most part). Then spammers discovered the board. These were not World of Warcraft spammers, these were (mostly) porno spammers.

Eventually the people running the board got tired of cleaning it up, & junked all the messages.
No-one, apparently, was archiving the messages. Wayback Machine (I forget the actual format of the name, but just Google Wayback Machine) does not have the discussions either, as the wayback machine only works for sites where the texts is "up front", not discussion boards, like this one, where you have to click on a subject to get to the text. I've discussed this with the help group over there, & they can't help.

That TV board is back up, with far better security, but almost no-one posts there any more, because they can't bear to see their life's work trashed, I guess (I partially speak for myself, & not entirely sarcastically (bitterly, caustically (tm) or whatever the jerk who posted about it thinks "sarcastic" actually means in modern English)).

Now, BobJuch & perhaps others are archiving this board so it can be reconstructed (unlike that TV board, run by a company). However, I'm sure none of the potential reconstructors want to have to be doing that on a daily or even more frequent basis.

If we don't all want span takovers to happen here, we will want the board moderators to put the grim tight restrictions in place, won't we?

When I saw the subject header, I wondered how MuteNelly got hold of a copy of the Podunkville Garbagewrapper. One of the City Councilors called the other four "^#&@^ useless." What bugged me is there really is an important story in the subject matter, but the reporter focused 75% on the remark. I wish we could have Skoop at our paper.
