This year's Super Bowl finished slightly behind last year's in the overall ratings, but it still ranks as the thrid most watched TV program of all time (the MASH finale being number one). Some 95.4 million people watched this year as opposed to 97.5 million last year. NBC estimates that 147 million people tuned in at some point to the game.

Surprisingly, the third highest rated Super Bowl (and fourth overall program) of all time was Super Bowl XXX in 1996, when Dallas dealt Pittsburgh its first Super Bowl loss. 2007's Super Bowl XLI ranks fourth overall and Super Bowl XXVII (featuring those ever popular Dallas Cowboys destroying Buffalo) ranks fifth.

. . .
People all over town canceled stuff to watch that MASH finale. An ignorant City league supervisor scheduled volleyball games as usual on SuperBowl Sunday a few years back and got three double forfeits. Same thing almost happened the night of the MASH finale except that started later so only the last game was a double forfeit.
