Actually, they say he did see his shadow, so it's six more weeks of winter.

But Phil doesn't know about our six seasons up here; it's one more month of winter, then two months of unlocking.

Spring will be here in May.

We had virtually no spring last year, so Phil is only confirming what we were expecting anyway -- freezing weather until about mid-April, then bang! 80 degrees, and the snow is gone in two days.

-- America would be a better place if leaders would do more long-term thinking. -- Wilma Mankiller

If he hadn't, we'd have six more weeks of ten-degree spring and Al Gore would be declaring that the cold weather was due to global warming.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

A local weather forecaster took off on Punxutawney Phil last night:

"Of course, he's going to see his shadow tomorrow. He's always going to see his shadow. In the middle of the night or during a blizzard, he's going to see his shadow -- from the glare of the bright lights on all the television cameras."
Now generating the White Hot Glare of Righteousness on behalf of BBs everywhere.

LOL! I've been thinking that for years.

I want someone to sneak into Phil's area the night before and feed him a good laxative. "That's what you get for dragging me out of my nice comfy hole, you white-gloved jerk!"

Heh!

On the other hand, he's got a job that he only has to perform one morning a year. What are the fringe benefits for the rest of the year?

Still no groundhogs in Texas so we have no way of knowing how much more "winter" we will have.

I wish someone would blindfold the little bastid.

Ancient tradition called for employing a a badger or sacred bear as the weather forecaster. If you don't have those in Texas, either, I suppose any animal will do. How about an armadillo? :P

It appears that Texas has badgers.

It really doubt if I'll be rousting one at dawn a year from now to get his opinion on his shadow or not. I surprised a badger in Michigan once while clearing fence line. I just barely outran him to my truck. I didn't seem like he wanted to discuss weather unless he was going to check out my entrails to do it.

Sacred bears? Maybe in Waco.

Well, we have our prognostication techniques and the badgers have theirs!
