That's too bad, that Weyoun was right about that. :(

After SuperBowl 33, sumjungidiots took all the garbagewrapper special editions, threw them into a big pile, and set them on fire. Sigh.

Yes, you've said that in the past -- apparently this was a sad first.

Hey! You shoulda seen Elway hit the crossbar in one try last week!

They prolly missed that on Stillers type television, and only showed it in the John Elway AutoNation market area . . .

Yeah, I was sorry to see the burning stuff. Couch, or just trash cans?

Getting home (from Karen & John's in Jefferson) was kinda roundabout! The news stations stated that "residents would be allowed through." Yeah, tell that to Ms. Officer Unfriendly at the Blvd. of the Allies where it splits off between Oakland and the ramp to the Parkway East. No matter that the part of Oakland we live in is nowhere near the part where everyone's going crazy, and all we have to do is go 4 blocks up the Blvd. and 2 blocks to the right (away from the "rioting.") No matter; Parkway one more exit to Greenfield, then up Swinburne and home!

Leah took a chance and took Carson from the Glenwood to the Hot Metal Bridge (right before the closed part, and up Swinburne. She beat us home!

Me and some friends made it down to Oakland after the game. I'd guess 3000 people on the street? It was packed for several blocks. The epicenter was around the Cathedral of Learning, where kids kept trying to rip a spotlight off the pole (once they figured they couldn't bring the pole down). One kid tried it, the cops pulled him off, he tried to run, the cops kicked the crap out of him... and while that was going on, another kid climbed up the pole to try the same thing.

I saw only small fires - I think the bigger fires were to the south of campus, in the residential area. Most of the property damage I saw was street signs, parking meters, and trashcans.

I am willing to bet the fire starter pole climbing idiots were not fans.

BTW, I don't get the claim that this is somehow unusual. You can go on Youtube and see videos of the riot from the last Super Bowl win (which I am told resulted in more damage).

That claim was a long while back, preceding the Stillers' last Super Bowl win. I don't remember a conversation about it then, but that's probably because I don't remember it, not because there wasn't one.

The fires and other destruction make me sad.

I thought at first that the fact the Steelers were so favored might make this less of a big deal. But the fact the Steelers were so favored gave these kids the idea to plan their "celebration"...

That doesn't make them fans.

It makes them people who look like fans.

The violence and damage is so not what my The Steelers are about.

Just ask Football Baby Boy:

I don’t look at football as a violent, barbaric sport. It’s a very spiritual sport, especially for someone facing the challenges during a game: the fear of failure, the fear of getting too big an ego, of making a mistake and everybody criticizing you.” - Super Bowl XL, 2005

Pea, here's a nice article about Football Baby Boy and his strong Orthodox faith:

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09032/945810-66.stm

One of the priests tells how "We don't pray for victories. We don't pray for defeats. We pray for the safety of the team."
Spoiler
Of course, Troy is the Safety of the team!
