Us out of our house indefinitely until the power comes back on. Lest you think this is a complaint, I want to emphasize that we are among the fortunate. No tree limbs on our roof (yet), no dead pets or relatives, both sets of parents safe and relatively sound, and we had both the means and the foresight to get a hotel room before they were all gone. A little extra cabin fever and some unexpected expense is a small price to pay.

Had to go by and rescue the snake today, since our energy company is now saying it could be the middle of next week before everyone is back on.

School's already been called for tomorrow (go ahead and make fun of us, Mr. Obama -- we just don't have your flinty toughness) but businesses are starting to open back up, and it doesn't appear that there were large scale catastrophes with hospitals or nursing homes.

In all, Evansville was far luckier than two of our smaller cousins to the south, Owensboro and Madisonville, KY. Both cities are COMPLETELY without power, AFAIK, and struggling. I heard from a Mom here that her son drove a generator down to the hospital at Madisonville Tuesday night, then had to turn right back around and return to Evansville because, with no power, they couldn't obtain any diesel fuel to run the generator. So this young man made two round trips through the worst of the freezing rain to drop off the generator, then enough fuel to run it. And of course there are stories like this one all over the Tri-state area.

Lots of threads here I'd like to respond to, but I think I'll wait - there's plenty to do around here, even stuck in a hotel.
