Dodging a Bullet

Our company had previously announced that they would be laying off about 5% of the workforce sometime during the first quarter. The news came today, and I'm still here, as is my entire division. I don't take any comfort in what's happened to other people, but we're still breathing a lot easier now. Since we are a non-profit, there's less pressure than there might have been in other circumstances, but they still needed to tighten the belt. The rest of us should be safe through at least the end of the year.

I had actually signed up today to take a test and the HR people asked me if I would move it to tomorrow because of a "big HR meeting" for today. I had a gut feeling that's what it was (and also that if they told me to come in tomorrow for a test that I probably would be okay). We're all still trying to figure out who got laid off that any of us know (16 people total but some in a company in CT we merged with last year).

Breathing a big sigh of relief.....

I know how you feel. I've dodged two of them in two years.

But it's always brought home to me, because one of my responsibilities is updating our systems and databases.

So today, I had to delete 160 people's records from several of our databases.
