I would like to ask this Bored for some support today...
Over the last couple days, this Bored has kept me distracted, occupied, and laughing a lot...something that has been badly needed and IMMENSELY appreciated. Since I wasn't a member here until recently, but have nearly eight years of intermittent history with this can of mixed nuts, I'd like to share with you all the events of last year at this time.
My beloved Jennifer confirmed she was pregnant late summer of '07. We jumped for joy. Got a due date of roughly April 15 of last year (our second anniversary...helluva prospective present, huh?)
Well, flash forward to the Monday before Thanksgiving of '07...and Jen's stepdad is banging the front door...telling me Jen started bleeding and went straight to the ER. Then, the sonogram brought bad news...a decided lack of fluid, and a steady leak...basically meaning her water broke...6 months early. The baby could be born any minute. But...she held on to the baby. She went on bed rest, and was admitted to the hospital the day after Christmas...all the nurses, docs, and techs surprised she wasn't in labor yet...for 31 days.
On Saturday, January 26th last year at 4:30 in the morning, our son, Jordan Alexander, came into the world...and looked right at his daddy and cried. Yeah...two and a half months early, but it looked reasonably good to begin with. They whisked him to the NICU, and we didn't hear much, but we were cautiously optimistic...until the NICU doc came up to talk to us.
The lack of amniotic fluid retarded Jordan's lung growth, and he wasn't breathing very well. But Jen and I went down to the NICU...and he'd do a lot better for a while...respirators and tubes and monitors. He was up and down all day Saturday and then into Sunday.
On Sunday, they released Jen from the hospital, so I finally got to bring her home. Jordan had been doing MUCH better earlier on Sunday, so we actually got hopeful. We called to check on Jordan...and were on our way back to the hospital PDQ.
The little guy just could NOT seem to get oxygen into his system...unless his mama or I were sitting right there with him. But...by later Sunday night, into early Monday, not even that was working. The could force him to breathe, but the pressure required was tearing up his lungs. We cried...and held our baby...and poured out as much love as we could...and then made the toughest decision in the world...
Jordan Alexander Colquitt left this world rocking in his mother's arms Monday morning, January 28, 2008.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have a faint idea of what you must have gone through -- about seven years ago, my sister and her husband lost her younger daughter under similar circumstances. As you know by now, the hurt never goes away, but it does fade. --Bob

Dave, I am so sad that you and Jennifer have faced so much sorrow. For the future, I wish you much love and laughter, including the sound of laughter from happy and healthy children who will someday realize that their older brother is watching over your family from a more comfortable place.

You have anything you need from me. We have lost two babies here but in a way were blessed they went straight to heaven and we didn't get to know either one. I cannot imagine losing any of the three we have--I would gladly (and I know you would) give my life for them.
I am so sorry. Pls feel free to send me a private note at any time.

I am so so sorry man. There's really not much I can do but offer my condolences and imaginary hugs and continue my daily array of bad jokes and idiotic comments. I hope, maybe, the distraction can help the tiniest bit. Stick with your gal and there will be better days...

I'm helping a decluttering client clear out her home and as she said to me last night, "Nothing can prepare you for the death of a child. Nothing."
Prayers go out to you and Jen ...

Dave, I'm so saddened by your story. My heart goes out to you and your wife. I can not realistically imagine what you two went through during those days.

There are so many thoughts rushing around my brain that I do not know how to express my love and support for your wife and you. Maybe the words will come later.

Dave, I am so sorry. I can't think of anything worse than the loss of a child. You were blessed to have him for a short time. I hope we can continue to alleviate the daily pain by distraction.
Well, then

Prayers for you at this tough time.
I'll ditto Mini- you did everything you could for him, and he's always surrounded by his parents' love.

That's just a brutal thing to go through. My heart goes out to you and your loved ones on this sad anniversary. There really no words that seem adequate. Just realize that your child felt more love in that brief amount of time (and carries it on to the next place) than a sadly significant number of children feel in a lifetime.
