it's 72 and sunny in Auburn

But it's 26 and snowing and sleet in Louisville, which is where I happen to be.
Missy and I had quite an adventure driving here last night and got within 30 miles of Louisville and had to stop. It's 500 miles from my house to Louisville.
Our windshield wipers were frozen solid and we could not tell one lane from another. The last 30 miles this morning were quite frightful but at least it was daylight and we could see.
My 91 1/2 year old mother had a stroke on Monday and is in hospice care at the hospital. Not sure just how long she will hang on.
Expecting at least 2 inches of ice tonight. Pray for us southern drivers and my family please. Missy does have a 4 WD and her husband talked us through getting changed over to it this morning.
Thanks!

Kay, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I'm glad that you made it there safely though. Be careful if you are out driving in the weather, ice is tricky even for those of us who are used to wintry conditions! You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh Kay...
I'm really thinking of you and your family now. No matter how much we've been through with our moms we still continue to love 'em. Stay strong and I'm with you ma'am...

Continuing prayers and good wishes are heading in your direction.
(BTW, high fives to you and Missy for getting there despite the lack of cooperation from Mother Nature.)

Be safe!

Thanks ya'll. We didn't get our hotel room until almost 2AM so we were exhausted as well as scared out of our wits!
We both feel like we need a massage from being so tense for so long. This morning we saw one terrible wreck involving an 18 wheeler and several cars and we watched several cars spin out right after they had blown past us. We were never so happy to reach our destination!
Not much change with my mom right now. She just sleeps and hasn't eaten since Monday.

So sorry to hear about your Mother. My heart & prayers are with you.
As for the vehicle, please please please remember that 4WD on ice is no better than any other vehicle on ice. Those extra drive-whatsits (a very technical term) will be ace on uneven ground, mud, etc, etc, but on ice they'll skid, unless they have those in-most-states-illegal chains on the tires, & even those will skid if they're going to.
So drive very slowly & carefully, ignore beeping idiots (people who are beeping at you, for whom "beeping idiots" is in fact a great name), & drive in daylight, which tends to melt ice when the temp goes up, if at all possible.

I was afraid that's where you were when I saw your post in the LS thread.
Stay safe, and hoping for the best for your mom....
