Amazing Discoveries could be anything. The Supremes is probably some obscure question about the Supreme Court. Everything else looks OK.

Hopefully, he'll be a useful expert this week.

Absolutely no excuse to use a lifeline on this question.

WWOQ®. I may be going through at least two of my lifelines on this one. Try the Expert first. If he's not 100% sure, I'll also PAF.

As someone said yesterday, Bill had that "deer in the headlights" look during his stint. I suspect he was quite nervous, not being a "professional" used to being on TV.

A nihil obstat® stack for me.

$25K: I have no idea, so I'd like to ask the audience. If that doesn't work, then phone a friend.

I'd be going for $50K for my ATE, DD and maybe PAF left (if I don't use it on the $25K question).

Wouldn't have had to waste the lifeline at 16K so going into 25K with all intact. B and C seem unlikely so a good opportunity for the DD as I can't rule out the orchids. Surprised I had not heard about the gorilla discovery as that is something I would be interested in especially given my current interest in Africa in general but it was not something I was familiar with. Doubt I would try the ATA here given the importance of this level but maybe try it to gauge the response. But pretty sure I could reduce it to two so the DD makes more sense.

I remembered something of this news report about gorillas, but the numbers didn't sink in at the time and 125,000 sounded way too high for them, so I was leaning towards orchids, last night. D'oh!

This new group more that doubles the world's population of gorillas, they say.

I am wondering if this news item was covered more here (Omaha) becuase of our world-class zoo, including the Hubbard Gorilla Valley exhibit.

Because I immediately knew the answer.

I would have given a quick correct answer to this, but perhaps for the wrong reasons. I read somewhere about the delightful discovery of more gorillas, although I didn't know how many, and in my mind they were "upland gorillas," of which there may be no such thing. I ruled out orchids because a guy with whom I went to high school works for the San Diego Zoo. At our last class reunion, he recently had come back from Papua, New Guinea, where he had discovered hundreds of previously unrecorded varieties of orchids. A fairly recent news story reported the discovery of many new kinds of rodents, snakes, birds and plants, including more orchids, in Southeast Asia (Laos, I think.) Therefore, for better or worse, I equate "new orchids" with that part of Asia and the islands of the Pacific. I would not have minded being right for the wrong reasons, of course.
