Stoopid snowplows

We got half an inch of snow here overnight. The snowplows didn't bother to plow my road this morning. It took me 45 minutes to drive to work (9 miles away).

At least they didn't plow the road and then inexplicably and without warning stop.

I was driving 55 to work last night down a nice, clear, plowed road, and all of a sudden it wasn't plowed anymore. Thankfully, after about a quarter of a mile of skidding and sliding, I was able to slow down enough to handle the left behind slush.....

Y'all got more snow than we did here in Louisville - but the forecast is for snow beginning tonight and by the time it's over on Wednesday the accumulation in the local area could be as much as 6". I just hope there is no power interruption tomorrow night at 8PM as there was last year at this time.

When the snow is on the road and it's 20 degrees, the roads better be plowed and salted or else the city government is just begging for accidents.

I do believe I've done that, from time to time.

I was thinking the same thing, but then again when I lived in Indiannapolis the light snow was or did usually turn to ice. It is a "different" snow than we get here.

You are used to driving on that dry lake effect snow.

Try driving on some of our slick snow one of these times and see if half an inch is worth plowing or not....

We never plow 1/2 inch of snow here - we only salt/sand.

They're predicting 6"-12" here on Tuesday night leading into Wednesday. I may load a bunch of documents onto a memory stick and work from home. The road to work was the scene of a 49-car pileup a couple of weeks back. Thankfully, I wasn't in it, but I do not care to be in the sequel.

Both of you are pussies. I can drive in 5 feet of snow.

You're all a bunch of pussies! Back in my day, we had to WALK in 5 feet of snow! Then we had to grab a shovel and plow the roads ourselves so the pony express could deliver our mail!

Marley beat me to it!

I was thinking, "Did Nelly mean half-a-foot?" We have minimal plaowing over the weekend, and we had two inches of snow.

I imagine that up in Marley-country, even six inches is considered a "dusting". :)

Around here, the snow is so wet that the smallest amount creates ice. So I can see where they'd plow half an inch.

I couldn't believe Denver where you cleared snow off your car with a broom. Here you need deicing fluid and a scraper. It's different kinds of snow.

Snow from southern-track storms and the snow the norther folks are more familiar with are two different animals. You can't drive on our snow, so even the littlest amount has to be plowed unless you want to salt the hell out of the roads....

No, we're outside the heavy lake effect belt, so that'd be a decent snowstorm, Appa.

Up in lake effect country, that'd be a dusting.

Followed by "rust the hell out of your cars" since no one gets the undercoating around here. Why waste the money?

The guy who comes and salts our parking lot at Mecca when it snows/ices slings that crap all over the place, pretty much laying waste to the bottom half of every car in the lot. The ones who have decent cars/trucks get pretty irked, but my LBN just laughs at stuff like that. Rust and small projectile dings build character....

Well, I can't speak for Kusch, Marley, or Sprots, but we get both the lighter snow and the wet, heavy snow here. It has been colder, it seems, this Winter, so all that we have gotten is the "dry" snow. Ticks the kids off because you can't build snowmen and have snowball fights with it.

Well, you're doing better than us. I think yesterday's half an inch may have brought us up to 2 whole inches of snow on the season.....

Still less than Las Vegas and New Orleans....

What kind of stickers would LB put on me? "I Brake For Notebooks"?

It's bad enough my ashtray is full of packets of salt from Mickey Dee's and Wendy's. And we haven't had a Wendy's around here in over 5 years, so you know how often I get cleaned out....

My problem with snowplows.

We live on a cul-de-sac, with 12 other houses. There is an area of grass and trees in the middle of the cul-de-sac, with curb.

When snowplows enter the cul-de-sac, they almost always enter to the right and go around the cul-de-sac counter-clockwise.

This causes the snow to be pushed into and pile up in everyone's driveway.

Were the snowplows to enter the cul-de-sac to the left and go around clockwise (which is easily done, as the street is wide enough to accomodate two cars), the snow would be pushed into and pile up in the middle of the cul-de-sac, among the grass and trees.

I have thought of appropriating a "One Way" sign, and posting it at the entrance before it snows. That would likely be more effective than taking the Lord's name in vain as a snowplow dumps a hundred pounds of snow at my feet as I stand there, shovel in hand.

The end.
