Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 1/26/09

While I have run four Lyrically Speaking contests by myself in the past, and have pulled one game from each of the first three already for Retro Monday, lost in the dustbin of Bored history is the November 2003 LS, which I believe was run by Ritterskoop, who allowed a different BB to host each week that month. I took the second week, a week which is still quite memorable to me for the fact that my suspected kidney stone problems became definite kidney stone problems, as I wound up missing 2 days of work that week and finally was referred by my local quack to a urologist. Then there was Marley's card, which came on Wacky Wednesday of that week, and was ironically foreshadowed in the Wierd Al song I was supposed to post that coming Friday... but I wound up posting it on Monday instead after Marley complained about not knowing any of my LS songs. It would've lost it's significance had it been posted when it was supposed to! Of course, Marley is still "The One _TPTB_ Doesn't Want", but I always thought that was one of the neatest coincidences on teh Bored that I've been involved in, and it wouldn't have happened without this 5 day LS run...
Well, anyway, today's Retro Monday game comes from that one week stint I did that November. I chose the game I ran for Theme Thursday that week, which has a simple, but 2 part theme to it (As in, there are 2 things each of these songs have in common), and you must give both parts to get theme credit...
Today's Retro Monday game was originally posted on Thursday November 13, 2003, the same day I first got my Rock of Gibralter X-rayed....
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and 3 points for the theme....
1. Her weapons were her crystal eyes
Making every man a man
Black as the dark night she was
Got what no-one else had
2. When you looked at me I should've run
But I thought it was just for fun
I see I was wrong
And I'm not so strong
I should've known all along that time would tell
3. So cool, she was like jazz on a summer's day
Music, high and sweet, then she just blew away
Now she can't be that warm with the wind in her arms
4. Well, if you want to be a movie star
I`ll get a ticket to Hollywood
But if you want to stay
Just the way you are
You know I think you really should
5. When all else fails and you long to be
Something better than you are today
I know a place where you can get away
It's called a dance floor, and here's what it's for
6. one time a thing occured to me
what's real, and what's for sale?
blew a kiss and tried to take it home
7. Now I understand
What you tried to say, to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
8. Well it was all of sixty-five years ago
When the world was the street where she lived
And a young man sailed on a ship in the sea
With a picture of
9. Sitting on a pebble
By the river playing guitar
Wondering if we`re really
Ever gonna get that far
10. You are the best,
You seem to stand out from the rest
Your intention's to be more than a honorable mention
