Beebs's suggestions of names other than Shirley in another thread reminded me.
#1 son's girlfriend has a sister who is engaged. Fiance's name is, I kid you not, Temujin.
Anyone get the reference?
p.s. his Mom and Dad are 1st generation Americans, but not from SE Asia.

We're all related to him anyway.

I see you didn't have much patience for a Sunday night and already posted the answer, but I got the reference.

I'm thinking #1 son's girlfriend's sister has some talking to do.
p.s. his Mom and Dad are 1st generation Americans, but not from SE Asia.

Not likely, if it was your "old" ship.
This Temujin is a relatively young graduate student -- early 20s. Funny that there are more than one, though, isn't it?

I think ol' Genghis left a good number of descendants.

I think ol' Genghis left a good number of descendants.
Including this one in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy":
"Mr. L Prosser was, as they say, only human. In other words he was a carbon-based life form descended from an ape. More specifically he was forty, fat and shabby and worked for the local council. Curiously enough, though he didn't know it, he was also a direct male-line descendant of Genghis Khan, though intervening generations and racial mixing had so juggled his genes that he had no discernible Mongoloid characteristics, and the only vestiges left in Mr. L Prosser of his mighty ancestry were a pronounced stoutness about the tum and a predilection for little fur hats. He was by no means a great warrior: in fact he was a nervous worried man."

Well, the guy I knew would be in his late 20s to early 30s now.
Hell...now that I think about it, he was one of my PAFs!! He was the only person I knew at the time with a cable internet connection

I hate to crash this thread but why do you say SE Asia? I don't get the reference.
I don't see Genghis Khan (Temujin) having anything to do with SE Asia. Southeast Asia is usually considered the countries south of China. I don't think Genghis Khan ever even conquered all of China let alone went south of China.

According to this map:

his empire included just a bit of SE Asia - Kashmir too.

That map shows the extent of the Mongol Empire, not just the rule of Genghis Khan. The time frame where it goes a bit into SE Asia is well after the life of Genghis Khan. Look at the extent of it in 1227 which is when Temujin died.

I seem to recall that the Mongols actually tried to invade modern day Indonesia, but this was after Genghis died.

This is weird. This is really weird. Here is a link to some guy's blog profile (not much to the link, but...). I only saw it as part of a comment on another guy's blog that I'd followed from another guy's blog.
I think this it so odd, considering. Seriously.
