But CNN calls her "upstate" and says she is the last upstate sen since the late 1960's.
If they mean Ken Keating, should be 1965.
But my question from an hour away from the former frontier outpost and stalwart of the cold war, Plattsburgh, is "How can Pea's district be upstate?"
Pea should run.
With her classic slogan.

Upstate is a nebulous concept. In general, the further away from NYC you live, the further away from NYC you tend to draw the upstate line. Gillibrand is certainly an upstater from the viewpoint of anyone reporting from Manhattan.

I'd vote for her.
(If I were living in New York.)

I live on Long Island.
As far as I'm concerned, anything north of Yankee Stadium is upstate.

Like I was saying...
When I was a kid, we'd drive to visit relatives around Newburgh. That was the northernmost limit of my personal experience and it might as well have been the North Pole.
Now, it's downstate.

And right here, right now, we should begin the Draft Pea for New York 20th Committee.
We have a surplus of pundits, and we can blame Rexer if she loses.
And a great campaign slogan.

Goodell, father of the NFL commissioner, served the balance of Bobby Kennedy's term from 68-70. He's from Jamestown.

doesn't really matter. Even in Plattsburg they consider Hudson 'upstate'. It officially starts at the southern Yonkers border, btw.

It annoyed me when they called her upstate, until I looked at where my district extends to. These boundaries make no sense - she does represent places I call upstate.

No way, no how.
If nominated I will not run.
If elected I will not serve.

We used to live in Fairport (Rochester, NY) and I thought THAT was considered upstate.

The artistry of New York congressional district borders would make Elbridge Gerry proud. My own district covers the western side of the Hudson Valley and the Catskills, but then there's a thin strip of territory that extends out to Binghamton and up here to Ithaca.
No way is Ithaca in the Hudson Valley!

In other words-"BITE ME".
I saw something somewhere that this is a district that is likely to disappear during redistricting which is coming up soon.
So Pea-It would likely be only a 2 Year deal-
I Know-"Bite Me"

Yep.
Other parts of Tompkins County are in two other Congressional districts.

He represents the part of Ulster county that is right across the Hudson from me. My seminar was held in the same venue as The Ulster County Democratic Women's fund-raiser last year. Hinchey was there. I shook his hand and had a short chat with him. He moved along when I let him know I was from Dutchess county.
Pretty cool that he dodged the bullet about that gun he left in his carry on luggage.
