It is looking like it is going to be a very competitive year this season.

Wake Forest, the last undefeated team in Division 1, lost at home last night to Va Tech. Michigan State, previously undefeated in Big 10 play, lost at home to Northwestern. New Jersey Institute of Technology won to end a 51 game losing streak. NJIT was the only winless team going into Wednesday so every one of the 347 Division 1 teams has at least one win.

There are still about 22 teams undefeated in conference play but I don't expect that number to stay very high for long.

However, the big conferences still hold sway in the polls. 17 of the top 25 are from three conferences.

AP Top 25
Big East - 9 teams
ACC - 4
Big 10 - 4
Big XII - 2
Pac 10 - 2
Atlantic 10 - 1
Horizon League - 1
C-USA - 1
WCC - 1
SEC - 1

The Big East has a good showing for the moment but, as with the SEC (or the Big XII this year) in football, because they have to play each other, they will knock each other around in the rankings. The ranks of the conference unbeaten will definitely diminish by one this weekend as the University of Louisville and Marquette, both undefeated in Big East play, face off on Saturday.

Umm, I should rather think it would be difficult for little babies to either run or hide.

Big babies maybe.

Who are "we"? If the reference is to Pittsburgh, they don't play Wake Forest this year. I'm probably missing something.

The SEC is totally shut out in this week's USA/ESPN poll. Very unusual.

The ACC is looking solid once again this year... us, Duke, Wake, Clemson, and Miami could make deep runs in March. The first three, most likely, but don't sleep on Clemson and Miami.

pitt is a dog at wvu today
they will need to beat em by 8 to win

i think the big east is starting to shake out, with uconn, pitt, louis and marquette being the top dogs
syracuse was in there, but they looked megasoft vs pitt.

the best team in the country could be any one of 8

The various Big 10/11 teams will have as much success in the NCAA tourney as their football teams did in bowl games...

We'll just see about that.

The Big Ten may not do well but I prefer to wait until someone fails before crapping on them.

Then all I did was beat you to it by six weeks...

You all are missing out if you're not watching the women. I'm watching OU/Texas right now and the Auburn/Tennessee
game today should be a real nail biter.

Just sayin'...

War Eagle! Not a nail biter at all. I will bandwagon onto the women's team, since the football team has given me nothing to cheer about.
