Idol Recap

I only thought that there were a couple of possible Top 24 contenders with those that they showed this week. I am in agreement with KT in that they should show at least a little bit of all those selected for Hollywood. There were also a couple that I felt had no business being selected such as the guy who brought his kids into the audition area. I liked the girl last night that got teary-eyed after being selected. I see that David Cook's hairdo has gotten very popular this year. Or is that a "standard" look these days. I am pretty much out of that loop.

It's replaced the mullet as the 'do of choice here in the River City (the scene of last night's auditions). I knew one person who went for the auditions - a member of our church who has a beautiful voice, but she didn't get the nod and wasn't even shown on screen.

I saw a girl from my city make it through when they showed a medley of passers, but it was such a brief snippet I couldn't tell if she was the kind of singer I would actually like or just one of those people who are loud and add a bunch of unnecessary vocal runs.

But, go, Felicia!

I like Kalamazoo guy.

really liked him

If I were Kazoo, I'd be finding his sweet behind.

The homeless girl was good - sassy without being obnoxious.

The guy who sang Taylor Hicks' audition song was interesting as well (thanks for the CD again, t-bone)

Which one? If you're speaking of Joanna Pacitti, there's a BIG reason why some people might not like her so much if they knew the whole story.

It depends on how much prior experience you think a contestant should be allowed and still not have an unfair advantage over a true amateur. I'm ok with the many many Idols that have released cd's independently, not so OK with those who have had a starring role on Broadway, TWO record deals with MAJOR record companies, AND have had FOUR songs featured in moderately to very successful movies. And IF it's true that she is friends with a bigwig at 19 Productions, that should raise a red flag at the very least.

It is ultimately more satisfying to watch the Eliott Yamins of the country, kids who can sing but have no contacts in the "business" and no idea how to get into it, who work behind a pharmacy counter or in a drive-thru, blossom and learn and grow nto performers, Cinderella stories if you will, than it is to watch people like Joanna who have had a bunch of chances and couldn't cut it. Like I said, I don't mind the local bar band singers and background vocalists who have only made records on their own dime or never been given a chance to make it on their own, but the pros who have had major record deals (or probably even those who have been a Top 10 contestant on other shows like "Nashville Star", there are a few who were sent to Hollywood on AI that fit that description) should be shown the door.

Yes, this was the girl I was referring to. But, WOW, I did not realize she had such a background. I definitely think this is a case of being overqualified for these tryouts. I don't think she should have been disqualified but I also agree with your second paragraph and will not root for her as much as if she had fit into that category.

When Cara seemed to know who she was, I was surprised.

Nope, can't root for someone who has already had these kinds of chances.

Nope, can't do it.

I think Joanna is also dating Mark Ballas from Dancing With the Stars. How many "breaks" does a person get before they realize that stardom isn't coming to them? Maybe a nice career like Kara's without being the headliner, but not a Britney-esque deal.

She makes a great cautionary tale for the wannabes, but this competition isn't going to work out for her. Women vote, and they're looking for their next boyfriend. If Joanna is to have any chance, they'll have to stack the men's side with gays, and they've already told Adam he's what they're looking for, so that may be the strategy.
