Super Bowl Trivia...need help

#1 Post by DaveSenior72 » Wed Jan 21, 2009 10:14 pm

OK, so I keep hearing that Kurt Warner is the 2nd QB to lead two different teams to the SB, with Craig Morton being the other...

But...what about Earl Morrall?? '68 is a no-brainer. But I'm asking about '72. I know Griese started SB VII, but didn't Morrall start almost all the games that got the Fish there after Griese got hurt, including the AFC Championship? I don't know, since I was 6 months old when this all happened

Griese was the starter the whole year in '72, I think. George Mira was the backup, who never played. Morral was with the Colts.

Actually, Dave is right. According to pro-football-reference.com, Morrall, who was in his first year with the Dolphins in '72, went 9-0 as a starter and was even named to the Pro Bowl. But it was Griese who got the start in the Super Bowl so he goes down as the QB of record.

I agree that the way this is often phrased is misleading. Morrall did "lead the Dolphins to the Super Bowl" in '72.

If you want to say "started" or was the "starting quarterback" for two different Super Bowl teams than Warner and Morton would be the only two. But Warner has not started that second one quite yet. I'm not saying he won't but he hasn't done it until he does it.
No matter where you go, there you are.
