Caroline Kennedy Withdraws

Multiple sources reporting she pulled out of consideration today. I'm guessing she decided the heat was getting too much and that having to run again in two years would be zero fun.
My fav other pick: Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown. Pretty good guy, doing a decent job, smart, would add an African American to the Senate (and one who isn't a disgrace)...and, I actually (literally) bumped into him in City Hall last year.

Perhaps the governor told her she would not be picked, so to save face she bowed out?

I believe so. Maybe Patterson told her that if she withdrew, he'll appoint her to the position of the person who IS named senator ...
I should think there is a role for her in New York State somewhere ...
She can be my County Executive if she likes.

The New York Post claims she bowed out because she knew she was not going to be picked.

Unintentionally funny wording in that article:
Sources said the reason Paterson had decided
not to tap the daughter of John F. Kennedy was her poor performances in media interviews and in in private sessions with various officials.

A different source claims she'd been told the job was hers if she'd take it. On this one, I'm inclined to believe the
Post, but there's really no way to know at this point. --Bob

The morning news stories have a slightly different slant. They say that Kennedy would have been chosen but a combination of factors led her to withdraw. These factors included the seizure suffered by her uncle Ted Kennedy, her lackluster apperances during a recent media tour and, perhaps most tellingly, her concern that private financial information might be disclosed. It seems that Governor Paterson asked interested candidates to complete a 28-page questionnaire that included some sensitive financial data. Although the governor said that the information would be kept confidential, some legal experts said that once the data was submitted it was subject to open records requests. The Kennedy clan has always been rather close about their finances and so perhaps the decision was made in order to preserve that privacy.

I'm wondering if she's thinking about ending her marriage and doesn't want her future ex to know "everything."
I thought it was kind of odd that her husband was never mentioned in any of the articles I saw. And she "used" to be Caroline Kennedy Schossberg.

Smart move. Perhaps she can apply for Community Organizer someplace to start her political career.

I sense that was formed from bitterness, but I thought it was funny.

No bitterness at all, Pea. Things are what they are. I just accept things for what they are and move on. If I can toss a barb here and there, I will.
Do you not find it hysterical that Obama selected a guy that cheated on his taxes to be Secretary of the Treasury???!!! And you can spin that and minimize it anyway you like. The guy cheated on his taxes!! He said he didn't understand the Turbo Tax program. I was laughing so hard I had tears rolling down my face!! This guy is supposed to be the smartest guy in the room when it comes to economics and he didn't understand Turbao Tax???!!! Yeah, right.

I wonder how different the world would be if JFK had withdrawn early a few times.

The New York Times is now reporting that the financial angle may have been the key one:

Housekeeper and Taxes Are Said to Derail Kennedy’s Bid
. . .
ALBANY — Problems involving taxes and a household employee surfaced during the vetting of Caroline Kennedy and derailed her candidacy for the Senate, a person close to Gov. David A. Paterson said on Thursday, in an account at odds with Ms. Kennedy’s own description of her reasons for withdrawing.

Golly. It sounds almost as if she borrowed Geithner's TurboTax CD.
Now, if she's not going to fill Hillary's seat at this juncture, I would have no problem if she entered politics in the future, as long as she does it the old fashioned way, by running for office.
