Do we have a new President yet?

It is 12:05 ET. When does he complete the oath?
Hmmmm.... too bad Alexander Haig didn't learn the cello. He might have had a shot.TheConfessor wrote:For five minutes, Yo Yo Ma was in charge of the country.
I guess it still counts even if the Chief Justice messes up the administration of the oath. It was amusing watching Obama's face and wondering if he was going to correct Justice Roberts or let him catch the error.BackInTex wrote:It is 12:05 ET. When does he complete the oath?
The video feed we were watching couldn't keep up with the audio. From the picture I saw while the oath was taken, our new president is the guy who was playing the oboe.BackInTex wrote:Hmmmm.... too bad Alexander Haig didn't learn the cello. Didn't see any oboes. In the quartet, there was a clarinet, but no oboe.MarleysGh0st wrote:The video feed we were watching couldn't keep up with the audio. OK, so I just flunked musical instrument identification.TheCalvinator24 wrote:Didn't see any oboes. Apparently, Copeland didn't write it, either.
"It’s called “Air and Simple Gifts, ” the centerpiece of which was to be “an exuberant rendering,” in Mr. Williams’s words, of traditional Shaker hymn “The Gift to Be Simple,” which Aaron Copland made famous in his 1944 ballet “Appalachian Spring.”"

And, under an alternate title ("Lord of the Dance"), was played last night during the Irish group's presentation on "Superstars of Dance".VAdame wrote:"Simple Gifts" -- also sung by Marilyn Horne at Bill Clinton's first inauguration in 1993
I remember a version getting play on Christian radio in the 80s. It was by John Fischer.VAdame wrote:Thanks, ear! Yes, if you've been in a Catholic church lately, you may also know it as "Lord of the Dance."![]()
(Is it just Catholic?)
I have one of those of Gerald Ford I believe. I just asked for and was given it. I think it came from a military base but don't remember for sure. I became an Eagle Scout in 1976, whilst Ford was still President and for some reason I wanted it. No doubt because he was an Eagle Scout as well. As a professional pack rat no doubt I still have it.earendel wrote:Building services has removed the portraits of Bush and Cheney that hung in the lobby of our building; no replacements yet because the new Prez and Veep haven't sat for official portraits yet. I wonder what they do with those old portraits?
