What a truly heartwarming story of bravery in the face of evil canines! I am truly touched, and I know who I will be passing on my Squirrel of the Year crown to next year......
Thank you for such a lovely pictoral in time for Squirrel Appreciation Day!

I was wondering if you'd see it. I ended up with the hot potato. Do you want it back?

Black dogs get such bad reputations and it's because of propaganda like this.
I am sure that the mother squirrel hurled the baby squirrel at the poor black dog, who was trying to lick the squirrel to resuscitate it. Then the mother squirrel realized that they baby could testify about her abuse so she took the baby back. If only the poor dog had opposable thumbs, then he could call Squirrel Protective Services and report the unfit mother.

I just knew there'd be two sides to this story.

Never mess with a muthuh!
What a great pictorial. Now I'm wondering, how come ya never see any of those tiny little cute baby squirrels running around? I don't think I ever have before... Do they just stay up in the trees until they get big?

Nope. It's a relic of BAM days past.
I think I still have one. Can't remember exactly how many are out there - thinking I made 5 or 6.

And dogs are good mothers, too.
Here is a very nice dog who, while pregnant, met a rescued orphan. She brought the baby to her basket.
When her puppies were born, the dog counted the baby as part of her litter.
And everybody was fine with that.
Dogs will be dogs and mothers will be mothers, and that's a good thing.

I'd just like to know what sort of photographer would be sitting there taking pictures of what he or she expected would be a scene that culminated in a large dog tearing a squirrel into shreds.

It would never happen. The dumbest squirrel can easily outwit the smartest dog.....
It is nice to see squirrels and dogs living together in harmony though. Those puppy brothers and sisters will make good target practice for that youngin' when he grows up....
