A 90 year old man and his 79 year old wife are missing and presumed overboard off a Carnival cruise ship out of Los Angeles.

There have been several instances recently of people going overboard including one cited in that article that occurred earlier this week.
I realize that a couple this age may have had some physical problems which might have contributed to this (possibly one of them may have stumbled and the other tried to help). Normally, however, on any cruise ship today, it is virtually impossible in all but the worst weather for someone to accidentally fall overboard. It's almost always a case of a deliberate jumper or some combination of liquor/drugs, horseplay, and sheer stupidity.
