To be specific, Meredith, a gambit in chess is where one player offers to sacrifice a piece to gain a positional advantage. The other player may then accept the piece and the gambit or decline them.

Once again, having lived directly below the Canadian border made me want to smack my head at the question that stumped the contestant. I wish all of my questions had been about Canada now.

Especially since her state borders Canada, I'd think she would have heard of a loonie.

It almost wasn't the loonie
The design for the coin was meant to be a voyageur theme, similar to the country's previous one dollar/silver dollar coin, but the master dies were lost by the courier service while in transit to the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg. In order to avoid possible counterfeiting, a different design was used.
Only in Canada you say.

I treasure my Loonie and Toonie.

Dave is still going to get another hat. I'm just abysmal at getting things to the post office, as many people here already know.

Oh, for a review by MBFFB here! I can just hear the comments about "return to sender".

I'm looking at $25K with all four lifelines intact. With some luck, I'd never have to speak to Lucy.

I'm guessing that the 5% of the audience that answered beer must have had a few before the taping.

No guts, no glory. Seemed rather timid from the transcript. But based on the need for an ATA on the $300 Q, which is certainly not a good indicator of success to come, probably did well to escape with 8K.
