Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 1/15/09

It was really nice of LB to allow me to host a Lyrically Speaking game for him, especially considering the fact that I'm actually one of Rexer's Merry Men! You see, the other day me and a couple other MM's were shooting the bull down at the Local 1326 Hall, and we were wondering why only LB's Merry Men seemed to get to host the Bored games. It didn't seem fair that just because our masters were too busy or lazy to host Bored games of their own that we should have to sit on the sidelines while LB's alter egos got all the fame, fortune and chicks. I mean, what does Billy Mays and Obscenely Rich Bastard have that I don't have? So I paid a little visit to LB to find out what the deal was. I told him that he should really allow me to host one of his LS games for him, and if he didn't, I'd use my horns to skewer his family jewels. He was surprisingly accomodating and said he'd be glad to give me a hosting gig! But then he asked to see the game I had written for him. Um...... I thought all I had to do was sit there and look pretty while I read off a carefully written and witty introduction for a game someone else wrote. Nobody said there was any real work involved in this hosting business! I turned around and slowly slunk away while my eyes started getting misty. LB must've taken pity on me because he called me back and told me I could stand in for him on one of his games. Oh boy, what a nice guy! Heck, LB was even kind enough to invite me with him to Ponderosa for lunch tomorrow! I can't wait!

So I couldn't get one of the primo Wacky Wednesday slots, but LB said all I had to do was introduce this Theme Thursday game for him. He says today's game is based on a theme he first used back in the October 2002 LS which nobody was able to crack then, so he's going to try it again this time under a different set of circumstances.

This game will not give you wings, but it will give you 1 point for each correct title, 1 point for each correct artist, and 3 points for identifying the theme.....

Okay, that's not it, but Craig Stadler is 'The Walrus', 'love' is a tennis term, 'five for fighting' is a hockey penalty, 'hold'ing is a football penalty, there's always some guy nicknamed 'Cadillac' on every team, and they have those non-sport sports on, so why not the 'dog' show and blackjack (where you can 'surrender')?

Well, I recognized some songs as being used before, and some songs I always get wrong. So maybe I've played too much or you recycle too many songs! :P

And it's not like I'm ever going to get a difficult theme, anyway. So I probably didn't get the theme then, either..........

Well, I recognized some songs as being used before, and some songs I always get wrong. So maybe I've played too much or you recycle too many songs! :P

And it's not like I'm ever going to get a difficult theme, anyway. So I probably didn't get the theme then, either..........

No, but at least your answer was inspired.... though I haven't scored it yet since I'm just currently dropping in here from my Grandma's computer and won't have access to my notebooks until I get back from lunch later on.....

And isn't the whole point of LS to recycle the same hundred songs over and over again......? :P :P :P

Theme?

I don't really know enough of the songs today to come up with something solid. At first I was going to say soundtracks because of the Golden Girls song and I always associate the Jackson Browne song with Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but that doesn't seem like such a tough theme that nobody would have gotten it.

Then I was thinking commercials because that's the only tie in I can think of with Red Bull being the MM, but that's lame.

I know Evil Woman, Bark at the Moon and Surrender are in the Grand Theft Auto games. I only know a few songs from when my nephews play it (it used to be incessantly, but not so much anymore), but would you have really done that theme without using Word Up? Impossible!

But I have nothing better (maybe you drink Red Bull during marathon video gaming sessions?), so I'm combining all my thoughts and saying songs that are on the soundtracks of video games. And hopefully I've blathered on enough that there's something in my rambling close enough to the theme that you give it to me (I learned my lesson being too short and sweet on the holiday theme, ha!). The End

I can't even lobby strenuously for new songs, either, since I won't know any of them! When Erin was a baby I kept up with music, but not so much in the last three years.

That new Pink song with the line "I'm not here for your entertainment" is my new fave, but I can't even tell you what it's called.

by Tim Kitzrow
Okay so I'm sure you're wondering A) Who the hell I am and B) Why am I submitting Clem's answers for him when there are so many other better looking options?

Well I'm Tim Kitzrow and my claim to fame is commentating the great NBA Jam games of the early-mid 90s. NBA Jam was undoubtedly the best game ever and whether you chose to play as Detlef Schrempf (The best video game three-point shooter ever) or Scottie Pippen (who had Jordan's attributes because His Airness wouldn't let his name be used) you always got a handful of my catchphrases that became commonplace in the dialect of America's 90s youth. So today, when it appears LB has finally listened to mini's pleas and thrown in some recent rockin' songs, I thought it would only be appropriate that I add my commentary to Clem's answers to help signify his arrival as an LS threat.

Theme? Some interesting possibilities, we've got two Scrubs songs, A couple songs used for TV themes (Surrender and Thank You For Being A Friend) and then there's the odd fact that ELO covered Surrender I think...could each of these artists have covered another artist? All Songs Used As TV Theme Songs

Well, you were at a distinct disadvantage in this game anyway having just come back to the Bored after being gone so long. I can't remember your posting status in '02 to know what kind of a shot you would have had at that one, but I think the original game was a much harder theme to pull than this one....

This game also adds further evidence to the notion that my mind works quite differently from others, which is why themes I think are easy are ones that turn into stumpers, and themes I think will be hard are solved rather easily....

My mind very strongly works with association. I can't go out of the house for even an hour without seeing something that will make me think of something from this Bored (Or baseball, or something from work, or anything else that's a major part of my life. I still think of donsdons everytime I see a reference to Blazing Saddles, and I doubt anyone else but maybe tubadave would even remember the incident I'm talking about which happened on the Bored over 8 years ago....

At least my fear I had that some people might guess at the theme before they even played the game wasn't justified.....
