Another thread here pays tribute to the late Preston Gomez, first manager of the San Diego Padres, who, just like the Expos, went 52-110 in 1969. One of the highlights of the Gomez managing era was Clay Kirby's near no-hitter in 1970 against the mighty Mets; he pulled Kirby for a pinch-hitter after eight innings, down 1-0 on a run scored with a double steal and a ground out in the first.

Jack Baldschun pitched the ninth.

San Diego has never had a no-hitter pitched by their pitchers. Call it the curse of Clay Kirby, if you wish.

By contrast, Montreal Expos, in 36 years of existence, pitched six, if you include the two "unofficial" perfect games, (making a total of 3 perfect games...). Pedro Martinez pitched 9 innings, gave up a hit in the tenth, and David Palmer 5 innings of rain-soaked perfection.

well, that is one way of making a thread longer. Sorta like Jack Nicholson's workbooks in the Overlook hotel. And my silly computer did not even let me know anything had been received. When I get enthusiastic, I will delete the excess ones.
