...For Best Picture (Drama).

Be interesting to see what this does for Millionaire's ratings both here and worldwide.

Sorry, gang; I really wanted to like this movie more than I did. I dunno what I was expecting (I saw it at an early screening with no information going in) but whatever it was I didn't get it.

The 2 movies I enjoyed the most this year ("Burn After Reading" and "Gran Torino") surprised me on many levels; I guess maybe I will have to give Slumdog another try. I thought, among other things, it was simply too brutal. Didn't make the game itself too sympathetic either (kinda refreshing of Celador to paint a not-so-rosy {but fictional} picture of itself). I took a look at the book the movie was based on (Q & A)...and it was even more brutal.

The movie is now the front-runner to win at the Oscars, and here in Dallas, the crowds to see it are growing each weekend. But I don't think it will have an effect on the game show. Maybe I'm wrong. I certainly didn't see "Slumdog" as this year's "Juno", but that seems to be where it's going. Only more so.

Hey, at least in the movie the phone game was the contestant selection method.

The best movies that I have seen this year are "Slumdog Millionaire" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

"Burn After Reading" was just ok for me, I really wanted to like it, but I just didn't.

I can't wait to see "Defiance" next weekend.

The U.S. version of the film will appear next year. It will star Kate Hudson as a fictionalized version of Katy Knudsen, who, on her way to the show, has to overcome such horrible tragedies as breaking a fingernail and failing to get matching accessories during the local mall's Black Christmas sale. In a bit of a casting twist, Matthew McConnaughey will play the fictionalized version of Regis, who, while being initially mean to Kate/Katy, winds up falling for her and serenading her with his bongo drums. Somewhat surprisingly, Matthew/Regis will perform his "host" scenes without wearing a shirt.

I understand that the scene where the two share a bathroom break during one of the high dollar questions is a real hoot.

Also in the cast is Paris Hilton as Kate/Katy's even ditzier sister and Seth Rogen as the show's producer.

Today is going to interview the Slumdog people. Matt teased it by saying it was a favorite of Meredith's. I would like to hear how she handles it, but that ain't gonna happen. I have no say in the remote control in the morning.
