I don't know if it was a touch of masochism or that it just wasn't anything at all worth watching late last night but I watched two episodes of Diners, DIves, and Drive-Ins. It was pure torture. I mean that I was actually drooling looking at all that food being prepared. So this is my public service announcement to all of you on New Years Resolution diets. Do NOT watch this show until you have achieved your weight loss goal.

Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins
I love this show. Almost every dive or diner they go to looks like my kind of place. However, this is not the show to watch if you are on a weight loss program. My biggest diet rule is that I stick to it very strictly if I am in my home county but I can eat/drink whatever I want whenever I travel outside my county. I am just not going to be dieting when I am on a vacation. I went to two different bowl games while we were out of school for Christmas. One was in New Orleans (you sure can't diet there
) and the other was in Dallas. I drank and ate my fill in both places. The result is that I must now really bear down on the diet plan.

I've watched this show several times. The host is a bit too hyper, but the content is great.
Two summers ago on our vacation around central California, we made a special trip to Hank's Creekside Restaurant in Santa Rosa because of this show. The staff are mostly the adult kids of the owner (Hank) and they told us that their volume went up quite notably after being featured. We were by no means the furthest travellers to do so; some people from Florida went to eat there and mentioned that they did so only because of "Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins".

Triple D is a great show.
I asked for and recieved the cookbook for Christmas. Not as good as going to the places, but you can adjust things as far as fat/salt content when you cook it yourself.
But nothing tastes as good as going to a Diner or such and having them cook it for you.
I want to look for these locations when I travel.

I watch this show whenever there is nothing else on in my normal round-up. I have often wondered how many real dives he has to go through before he finds a place he can rave about. Since we never see any shows where he gags on the food, I have to believe that not every diner that he visits has palatable eats. Which reminds me. Lady G and I were on a drive when we lived in South Carolina and were looking for a place to eat. We saw a place that was surrounded by cars and trucks and figured the food must be pretty good. Well, you can pretty much guess the rest. That's what makes me wonder how many places he has to visit before he hits a good one.

What is up with the Travel Channel running all the food shows when the New Year's Resolution crowd is trying to be good?
I love finding good diners when we travel. I hate most chain restaurants. If we pull into a place and it has formica table tops, the food is usually better.
