Looks like we've finally got us a National Champion

Ladies and Gentlemen, your Utah Utes!

C'mon, Oklahoma played like cow dung overall tonight (I'm sorry Sc but it's true) and Florida benefited from that because they were less than champion-like.

Utah smacked Alabama in what was essentially a home game for the latter, beat a TCU team that looked a heck of a lot better in their bowl game than either team tonight, and beat an Oregon State team that was still healthy after beating USC.

They're also undefeated, and Florida is not.

That's why Utah is the true champion.

Maybe Utah will be the AP champions, instead of Florida. After all, beating OU by 10 on a neutral field didn't seem to mean much when Texas did it.

Neither team tonight played like "cow dung."

I congratulate Florida for outplaying the Sooners down the stretch when it really mattered. Tebow is not a great QB (he is incapable of throwing a spiral), but he is a heckuva a player.

OU's defense had a few difficulties but I believe they negated the argument that they wouldn't be able to contain Florida because they are in the Big XII and nobody plays defense in the Big XII.

The difference in this game was Florida's defense stopping OU's offense from ever going over the top for a big play. It was either team's ball game until the interception in the 4th Quarter.

Florida deserves this one, and I suspect that Utah may rise to #2 in the AP poll (except there's an incredible amount of love for USC from media types). My guess is that your final AP poll will be:

1. Florida
2. Utah or USC
3. USC or Utah
4. Texas
5. Oklahoma

I didn't think much of the Oklahoma tackler twisting the ankle of the Florida running back when he was down. I'm no big fan of Florida's but that was a low rent move on Oklahoma's part.

FWIW, I think Southern Cal was the best team in the country by the end of the year. Not that it did them any good.

I couldn't stay up to watch the end of the game. I went to bed with Florida up 14-7 near the end of the 3rd quarter and figured that they'd end up winning the game. As big a fan of the Sooners as I am I can't understand why it is that Bob Stoops can't seem to get them over the top. This is their fourth BCS bowl loss in a row. From what I observed, the problem seemed to be that they got away from what got them there - the hurry-up tempo. There were flashes of it in the 2nd quarter in particular, but for the most part they didn't seem to have it together. Brent Venables did a great job on the defense for the most part.

Maybe it's because they're actually playing a quality team that can play some defense when they get to a bowl game instead of running up a big score against Baylor or Kansas State while throwing long passes with two minutes in the game.

Two trips inside the opponents' ten yard line with no points to show for it is a good way to lose any football game.

Looked like a couple of heavyweight juggernauts smackin' heads to me. I thought both teams played reasonably well but that Florida was superior, at least last night. I think they are the better team overall but hard to know for sure isn't it?

USC definitely looked like they could potentially compete but then again they were playing Penn State so it wasn't that much of a test as I don't think Penn State this year was as good as the hype anyway.

Seems only reasonable to give Utah a real chance to prove they are worthy of the (currently) mythical national championship. But then we would need a playoff to prove that.

You know, kinda like the other divisions in college football.

Do you have any evidence to support your claim that OU threw long passes against Baylor or Kansas State in the last two minutes?

If Va Tech can't have it, then I'm glad Percy can have it.

What the hell is a "yute"?

A young person, as described by someone from New Jersey, at least as it was portrayed by Joe Pesci in "My Cousin Vinny".

ESPN has secured TV rights (for all BCS bowl games) for 2011-2014. Could this help the campaign for a playoff schedule?

Only if ESPN makes more money from a playoff starting in 2015 than it does with the BCS in 2014.

The bottom line question is, can college football fans gut it up enough to not travel to or watch BCS games from next year til 2015?

I say no.

A National Champion?

Really?

Is it April already?

Did somebody actually play, you know, a tournament, with teams being eliminated one by one until the last team is standing at the end?

I must have just missed it.

BCS: Basketball's Coming Soon

Quite possibly the only thing I like better about college basketball than college football.

Nah, it still isn't enough to make me watch basketball.

Pitchers and catchers in 36 days...

Incorrect. ABC still has the rights to the Rose Bowl and to the National Championship game in 2014 when it rotates back to the Rose Bowl site.

But, otherwise, carry on.

That's right and I'm still rooting for the Yankees to sign Manny. I mean why not, the baseball world already hates us and we'd get the added bonus of having the most screwed up locker room and team chemistry in history. Maybe they could make a reality show out of it and show it on YES. I would watch that.

Sorry. I assumed it was common knowledge that ESPN and ABC are basically the same network when it comes to sports.

Ah. I may have missed your point.

You were saying that a playoff is more likely since ESPN/ABC has the rights to all the games? I thought you were making some point about a cable network having the games rather than a broadcast channel.

It indicates to me that most of the BCS games are not seen as valuable enough for broadcast networks to want to pay for them.

I'd say that ESPN/ABC owning the rights to the BCS games until 2014 just means that nothing will change until at least 2015. A playoff system would mean a whole new TV deal.

IMO.
