Dead rat

#1 Post by Bob78164 » Thu Jan 08, 2009 5:37 pm

A dead rat appeared sometime between when I left for work yesterday and when I left for work this morning. It's on the patio between my house and my garage. Yecccch.

I've called County Health Services to get rid of the damn thing, but I'm told it'll take them a couple of days to respond. I may need to deal with it myself. Double yecccch.

To make matters worse, Ms. 63 had occasion this morning to move our bed, and you'll never guess what she found beneath them. Rat droppings. Triple yecccch.

I'm really starting to hate rodents. And I haven't even made it home yet. --Bob

Try this:

A rat is just a big mouse.

Mice are cute.

(the best I could do).

A rat is just a squirrel that needs Rogaine.

When Zap had been here for about a week, he found a mouse in the backyard and killed it. I found it and since I am afraid of rodents, I did the logical thing, I used the pooper scooper and flung the carcass over the wall. We have coyotes that roam in this area at night and I figure that it would make a tasty treat.

Yikes. Rats are pretty big to get into a house. Better start checking for entry points. And more droppings. If you're lucky it might just be mouse droppings.

I'll be using a shovel to deposit the carcass in our trash can. Fortunately, tomorrow is pick-up day.

What bugs me is wondering whether the thing died of some illness that can get passed along to us two-legs. There's no visible cause of death -- at least, none visible from five feet away, which is as close as I've cared to get to it.

I'm not sure I agree with the wisdom of your solution. After all, you don't want to teach coyotes that there is yummy stuff to be had near your house. --Bob

rats are very social
I dont torture mallards all the time, but when I do, I prefer waterboarding.

Indeed they do! Very social diseases like plague (OK it is mostly the fleas on the rats but those fleas really like the rats they live on!) and Hantavirus, a viral hemorrhagic fever that causes a severe pulmonary disease syndrome and is a kissing cousin to the viral hemorrhagic fevers like Ebola in Africa, some of which also use a known rodent vector.

Very social indeed...
