After Washington, unless it was on the death of a president the inaugural oath was given by the current Chief Justice on March 4-5 changed to January 20-21 in FDR’s first term
1 With 9 he administered the most oaths.
2 This president had the oath administered by his father.
3 This president is the only one to have the oath administered by a lady judge.
4 This man both administered and received the oath.
5 These 2 presidents had the oath administered privately and then publicly 2 days later.
6 William Cranch the only judge to administer the oath to 2 different presidents was this first lady’s nephew.
7 The 2 presidents who were administered the oath on the death of their predecessor by a sitting Chief Justice and the names of the 2 Chief justices.

I hope I got all the wording clear.

Numbers 1 & 6 appear to contradict each other.

#1 says someone administered 9 oaths

#6 says that someone is the only one to have administered the oath to 2 different Presidents.

Unless by "judge" in #6, it means the only non-Supreme Court Justice.

This seems a bit misleading. There is no provision in the 20th Amendment for administering the oath on January 21st. Yes, Eisenhower and Reagan had public ceremonies on January 21, but they were just reenacting what had already happened the day before.

2 was Coolidge
3 was LBJ
4 was Taft
5 Hayes and Arthur others were a day later because of the Sabbath
6 His mother was Abigail Adams sister
7 Andrew Johnson by Salmon Chase because It was in Washington
Harry Truman by Harlan Stone same season
Chester Arthur's official one was by John Brady A NY Justice

Just a technical note, but the date change to January 20-21 did not apply to FDR's first term, it was his second term. The 20th Amendment did not actually go into effect until a few months after Roosevelt was inaugurated.

A serendipity kind of thing, but the only reason I actually knew for a fact the answer to #6 was because I happen to be reading David McCullough's biography of John Adams, and I just read the part that mentions who his mother was.

If you read my post I said "in FDR's first term" not "for FDR's first term" so I knew it did not apply for his first inauguration.

And since you like technical notes, the 20th Amendment says nothing about January 21st.

Section 1. The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

Yes, with a more specific reference, and directed to Mr. W, since he apparently didn't notice my earlier comment to you. If I'm missing something about why he mentioned January 21st, I'm sure he'll have an edifying and entertaining explanation.

I think he read your post and was just quoting my technically inaccurate original reference to the 2 days and referring to his thought that I had also incorrectly included FDR's first inauguration, which I had not. My source was a chart with presidents, dates and oath administrators. it had no direct reference to the constitutional amndment.
