They asked me today about "Irvin" Johnson - I know all about "Earvin" Johnson, but not about "Irvin". I figured they reaching for something obscure, so I guessed - incorrectly. My December performance is proving to be a fluke.

Okay - I'll be stoopid.

Is it Magic or something else?

Misspellings on Sploofus are annoying. Especially on TQOTD. I missed a movie Q once because of the way that they spelled a movie title.

The misspellings on the regular quizzes I'm a little more tolerant of but there are some doozies in there.

I thought all the Magic Johnsons were in the "Thing" thread...

Earvin Johnson is better known as "Magic".

Irvin Johnson might be a bridge partner of kusch, for all I know.

Speaking of stoopid.

I got this question on a Sploofus quiz:

Basically, they gave you a list and you had to pick the description.

#4: Aquarius, Aries, Cancer, Carina, Gemini.

What are names of stars?
What are types of helicopters?
What are names of naval ships?
What are signs of the zodiac?
What are types of ski jets?

I couldn't figure this out from the choices.

Their answer:
Spoiler
THE CORRECT ANSWER WAS: What are names of stars?

I don't think Aquarius, Aries, Cancer, or Gemini are stars. They are all constellations but that wasn't a choice. Am I missing something? By "names of stars" did they mean groups of stars?

And this quiz is currently highly rated.

I know of
Spoiler
no stars
with names Aquarius, Aries, Gemini, Cancer or Carina. I would complain, they should give you a Constellation Prize.

Was this the TQOD, a peer-written one, or something else?

Peer-written. That's why I said it was a question on a quiz. And it has the #4 with the question. I think the quiz was called Fun Jeopardy.

I could PM the author, I guess, but I always feel like a jerk pointing out their mistakes when they took the time to write the quiz.

So I complained here. Does no good except make me feel a little better.

PM the author - I had a few ambiguities in some of my quizzes and was able to reformulate the question or at the minimum be aware of how other people may interprate a question that was useful to me in writing later quizes.

Don't be obnoxious about it - point out what you think is the problem and why - hopefully they will fix the quiz - because I believe as it currently stands, it is wrong.

I've never minded getting a correction or suggestion (in fact I liked it - it shows that someone actually cared enough about my quiz to comment or reply about it) and have corrected some other quizes as well.

I would point out that those are all constelations and that you know of
Spoiler

with those names. Ask them where you can find the info that validates their answer or is it possible they mistyped the choice. If you don't take the tone that they are an idiot but are respectful they more then likely will appreciate the correction.

To leave it uncorrected is unfair to future takers of the quiz, IMHO.
