What a crock Doubleday's invention of baseball has less credibility than Al Gore's invention of the internet. The whole story was fabricated by baseball and sports mogul A G Spaulding and has no basis in truth. As a matter of fact West Point records show Cadet Doubleday never left West Point on leave at the time he invented baseball in Copperstown.

Darrel got sca-rewed.

Abner Doubleday may have been credited with inventing baseball, but he sure as hell didn't actually invent baseball. Although games similar to baseball have been around since the 14th century, Alexander Cartwright invented the modern version of baseball.

I wonder if it would be possible to file a protest on the validity of this question.

TPTB probably covered themselves with that often credited phrasing.

So was the the baseball promoters who invented that first shot fired for the North business? I can't recall ever hearing that.

“It was just a great way to get some extra cash to get through these terrible times,” Fasano said.

I can come to a reasonable guess - it's not Francis Scott Key because he died before the war; JWs were founded by Charles Taze Russell in the 1870s. So it's time to use the Double Dip and make C my first answer, followed by A if I'm not right.

would've been a good stack for a South Carolina boy since we have to call Atlanta and we're steeped in Ft. Sumter mythology, even the Yankee stuff.

Captain Abner Doubleday was the 2IC at the fort and as such was responsible for aiming the cannon that fired the first retalitory shot by the north

So I went to wiki to find out more about Abner:

"Abner Doubleday (June 26, 1819 – January 26, 1893) was a career United States Army officer and Union general in the American Civil War. He fired the first shot in defense of Fort Sumter, the opening battle of the war, and had a pivotal role in the early fighting at the Battle of Gettysburg. Gettysburg was his finest hour, but his relief by Maj. Gen. George G. Meade caused lasting enmity between the two men.
In San Francisco, after the war, he obtained a patent on the cable car railway that still runs there. In his final years in New Jersey, he was a prominent member and later president of the Theosophical Society. In addition, he is known for a popular myth that he invented baseball, which has been debunked by almost all sports historians. Moreover, Doubleday himself never made such a claim."

Oh, and his father's first name was Ulysses.

There's no way I could ever forget that B-More is 410 because it's tatted on my forearm. :)
