The Second Funeral of the Month

Jeff and I went to Jeff's Grandmother's twin sister, June's funeral today. She died about three weeks after her sister. There was a lot of laughter at the funeral. As the rabbi said, you can't spell funeral without using the letters f-u-n.

Once again Jeff, his brother Marc and his dad were pallbearers. They jokingly call themselves the "dream team" since they have been called upon to serve in this capacity three times in roughly a year.

The girls went to school today. They loved their Grandma-Auntie Junie, but her death was too close to their Grandmother's death, with the services held at the same mortuary, and burial in the same area of the cemetery and it was too much too soon.

After the funeral Jeff and I went to pick up Maddie's car. She inherited her Grandma's car, but after sitting in the garage for a while without being driven, it wouldn't start, so it had to be towed to a dealership. (No, it wasn't a Bugatti, it's a Cougar and Maddie loves the fact that her car is going to be on the prowl for younger cars.) Once the car makes it to Placentia, Maddie just wants to sit in it, wearing her Grandma's vintage Ray-Bans and wearing her Grandma's mink coat. (Maddie certainly received gifts that suit her personality.)

For this funeral we didn't hire a baby-sitter for Zap. (After Jean's funeral, Maddie's friend Lauren said that it was the strangest baby-sitting request she ever had, but she enjoyed her time with Zap.) We thought that we would be gone for maybe four hours, a time that he had handled before, but we were away for 5 1/2 hours. He was extremely happy to see us, the carpets were dry and the cats were alive, so he was a very good boy.

Death sucks. Jeff's father's first cousin's father-in-law also died at the end of December, so I am hoping that this is our "three deaths."

What Skoop said!

I'm so sorry you guys have gone through so much loss in such a short time. It sounds like Grandma and Gandma-Auntie were quite a pair, and you guys were blessed to have them in your lives. I have a great visual of Maddie in the shades, the fur, and the car!

My family decided that funerals are not fun so we stopped having them. Seriously.

My father's father died the night after serving as my other grandfather's pallbearer. That was the last funeral in our family.

What year is the Cougar? I had three: a 1968, 1971, and 1974.

I'm so sorry that you've had so much loss in your family recently, PSM. I send my condolences to you, Jeff, and the girls.

I would also love to see a pic of Maddie in the car w/the mink and the glasses.

Sorry for all this coming at once. Sounds like Auntie had a good run, though.
