Had to dig a bit for it, but well worth the digging. Nice, bix. Very nice. And I agree that Olbermann's commentary was a joke and uncalled for.

Great article, Bix! I have made a point to NEVER watch Olbermann, so I didn't see his "Worst person in the NFL" segment. Sounds like he once again lived up to my expectations of him.

Way to go Bix!
I loved reading what he did for Deb.
Keith Olbermann is the left's version of Rush. I can take either of them for about 2 minutes.

Great piece, Bix! It was both touching and interesting. I very much like your approach of "let's play fair here," because that is done far too rarely by the media. Your reply to a comment is one I wish we could hear in more areas of life: "This isn't a take sides thing."
I'm proud to know you.

Thanks.
I guess part of that comes from my frustration of controversy of the week journalism. That I sometimes read something about an event I saw, and wonder if they are describing the same thing.
I really do think that we lose sight sometimes that we are talking about people and not talk show events.
I have to say that as a group the AOL commenters are reading comprehension impaired. My sister and I have gotten a few giggles from the comments.
Our new catch phrase from one of the rants is, "Do you date black guys?" She was reading me some of the comments when I was running errands earlier. There are some really odd people in the world, and you just have to laugh about their sickness instead of getting mad about it.

I can't read more than a few of those things at a sitting, unless I particularly want to develop a twitch in my eye and an overwhelming pessimism about the future of civilization.
Or unless I want to bite somebody.

Annie, I completely understand.

It's actually pretty hard to describe how personable he was in getting the team to sign stuff. He was a rookie at the time, and basically interrupted what everyone was doing to tell them what he needed to do.
He is a big personality. It sometimes gets him in trouble, especially on a team that doesn't have that many big personalities.

Nicely done, Bix. Great story about your sister's hat.
Thanks to those to pointed the way to the specific article. At first I was wondering if Evil_Blonde_Bix was moonlighting as a Cardinals cheerleader.

Hi, Bixby. Interesting article. I guess I lost track of your blogging career, since the Texans are pretty low on my priority list, but I was under the impression that that you blogged for the Chronicle. Do you do both, or did you start at the Chron and move to AOL, or am I just confused? How does it work? Are you committed to posting on a specific schedule and frequency, or just whenever the mood strikes? Do you have any editors or gatekeepers, or do you just upload without going through official AOL channels? Is this a paid gig or a labor of love?
Speaking of your siblings, what ever happened to your brother who was unfairly accused of causing an accident in Austin? Did that go to court or did cooler heads prevail?

Interesting article. You are right that not enough is said in the media about the good things that athletes do.
However, I have to take exception to this comment in your blog:
"As he made his way back to the bench, he yelled at the guy who hurt him, but he didn't "stand over" him in the sense that I picture a guy standing over someone taunting him."
When I looked on YouTube, Johnson did go right over to Green's unconscious body (not towards the bench), yell at him in a "taunting" fashion. (You are correct that he did not stand over the body for very long -- maybe 5 seconds)
[Everyone can judge for themselves. The alleged "taunting" starts at 17 seconds.

The hardest part to understand is how he acted after he knew that Green was seriously hurt, when he had time after the game to calm down, and he still made the inappropriate comments. I understand that defensive lineman are very upset about these blocks to their knees, but it really is no excuse for a grown man to behave so poorly.

When I read some of the AOL comments, I wonder how the people who wrote them function in life. Do they have jobs and pay the bills?
Awesome story
