To any gaming system experts...

What is the difference between Nintendo DS & Nintendo DS Lite, anbd could an 8-year-old (about to be a 9-year-old) tell the difference?

Thankee

I'm sure he would definitely tell the difference. Only the DS Lite is available for purchase new now.

My son saved B-day and X-mas money to buy his DS and about 6 months later the DS Lite came out and he promptly wished for the newer version. Which he received for Christmas last year. So we have both of them around.

The DS Lite is lighter and more compact and has a brighter screen, but otherwise they play the same games.

Just to let you know, though, Nintendo is coming out with a new version of the DS within the year (2009), supposedly. :?

My kids range in age from 28 to 11 and they're all big Nintendo fans. I've given a lot of money to this company! :x

The DS Lite is the newer version. Smaller, lighter and has a brighter backlight for better viewing. DS and DS lite play the same games. A 9 year old would want the Lite - because it's the latest and greatest.

NOTE : I have consulted the highest authority on this. My oldest will turn 17 in about 10 minutes and is gearing up for a full day of snowboarding tomorrow. With friends. That means that there is a room 15' from this keyboard that contains 5 (that's five) 16 ish male type beings who are spending the night so they can get an early start tomorrow. Safe to say that they know DS and gaming.

NOTE #2: They can play drums on guitar hero, they can play guitar but lordy, lordy they sure can't sing.
